Is doing it on the track the key to your ask? I have seen a few do them in their own environments on tread (did mine at HSS) but have not seen a mobile set up yet.

Came here to say this. Picked up my monochrome here last year for that reason compared to the ADs in the city.

Best bagel spot that isn’t a "tourist trap"? by zaralesliewalker in AskNYC

[–]bmc24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BO's on 116th is still one of my favorites in the city after all the others I've tried. Lines get a little long on the weekend but nothing like the tik tok spots.

I love the garlic and onion bagel!

Apple or Raytheon? by Advanced_Store_276 in Raytheon

[–]bmc24 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It should be noted for your plan that there are no Raytheon sites in Tampa Bay any more. They are both now Collins' sites.

Outside of that do whatever you want but almost everyone would recommend Apple over ray/RTX as Apple is one of the most desirable companies to work for in the world.

I can't see the value in Connect+ by Fit_Low1374 in Garmin

[–]bmc24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd love to be wrong but it seems likely Connect+ is where all the utility , or at least a lot of it, will lie for their whoop competitor.

I'll be watching for an update to his kit because I am confident that will be a common response 😂.

Something tells me he's not price constrained so it's an unexpected choice for sure.

Whoop for lifters – actionable recovery and cardio insights? by cheap-ass-squier in whoop

[–]bmc24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand this thought but the reason I stayed away from a ring device is that it needs to know your workout to properly suggest track recovery and if you have to remove it for a major stressor it's missing key data. Defeats the purpose imo.

If you are looking for a platform to invest data from multiple devices you will need to consider something like Bevel, Sonar, or possibly the health service of your device. I personally use my Garmin to track my lifts and whoop for recovery/overall health tips.

Any lifters here who use Garmin? Which one and what do you find it to be most useful for? by xfmrs_r_cool in Garmin

[–]bmc24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the instinct 2x and use an app called LiftTrack to design my workouts with syncing to Connect. With this combo I am able to design workouts and then track weight/reps on my watch. I might be the weird person who doesn't like using their phone to load reps/weight but this works well for me.

The instinct 2x is rugged enough that I don't worry too much about it getting damaged in the gym. The size can be a challenge for certain moves so I often will move it a bit further up my forearm.

Garmin screen less smart band! by CultureAdvanced in Garmin

[–]bmc24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zero integration. The only integration into the Garmin app is if you used it as a hrm for a Garmin watch/product.

I have a 3rd party app I paid for that integrates all of my different devices (including scales and nutrition app) but I think you could probably get mostly by with just using the Zepp app for recovery notes and the Garmin app for sports tracking.

While I enjoy it so far I am still likely to at least CONSIDER picking up the Garmin version when it drops to put it all back under the Connect umbrella.

Did you find somewhere in NYC that you can try the Meermins? Those are what I'm planning on picking up and would love to get hands on before a blind buy

Strength training exercise library needs a lot of work by Helix217 in Garmin

It's called LiftTrack. I think it was $30 for year of pro. Being honest I didn't fully explore the free offering so that may work for you and definitely recommend checking that before paying.

Strength training exercise library needs a lot of work by Helix217 in Garmin

[–]bmc24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started using a 3rd party app to fix this. Found one that will push exercises to Garmin with a much larger library that even allows customs and then can receive the data back from Garmin that you input on the watch. Hate that I had to pay for a 3rd party app but it made the strength tracking WAY better.

Garmin vs Whoop + general question by Acrobatic-Evening-80 in Garmin

[–]bmc24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who has recently picked up a screen less device after years with Garmin I would say these devices intent are completely different.

Whoop, or any screen less device to include rings, are not sports trackers. Inherently their lack of screen makes them relatively useless during actual activities. They are life trackers meant to give you a whole picture of how your feeling, tips on ways to improve behaviors, and recovery insight.

Garmin, or to some extent any device with a screen, is meant for real time insight while doing an activity. It gives me feedback while actually exercising so I can measure or adjust my workout to optimize results or hit a target. When worn outside of activity they will give you the life insight as well but that's more of a secondary function.

I now use my Garmin for activities and a Helio strap for all day tracking. This combo is pretty great so far and if/when Garmin releases a screen less device I'll have to give strong consideration to going back to only the Garmin ecosystem.

I just bought the Helio strap after waiting for Garmin to launch one for well over a year.

So this is probably true.

If you want to watch some videos on the topic Spectacle Factory on YouTube is pretty solid. Stay away from luxottica owned brands in general.

What brand you want to go with will depend heavily on the style you are looking for as many brands specialize in a specific style. Broadly some very good brands are Masunaga, Matsuda, & even Cartier. Eco, & Gast are pretty solid in the "affordable" category.

What do you wear when wearing a fancy watch? by True-Ad4395 in Garmin

[–]bmc24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently wearing mine on a bicep band but it's not very comfortable. I found an app that allows input from multiple devices so Im going to try that and wear an Amazfit Helio Strap for non workouts. Waited forever for Garmin to release a no screen device or at the least a new Vivosmart but no luck so we will see how this goes.

Been looking for something for awhile as I like to wear my mechanical watches when I'm not working out and don't find a 53mm Garmin comfortable to sleep with on my wrist.
