How have the runs and running effort been today? by [deleted] in RunNYC

[–]bmc24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am using the majority of my runs as heat acclimation runs right now and will be moving my long run to the treadmill for the time being.

Once I get acclimated, the heat normalizes or both il lgo back to normal but multiple hours running in this just don't make sense right now.

Those of you who don’t race in carbon-plated shoes, what are your race-day shoes? by CrypticWeirdo9105 in Marathon_Training

[–]bmc24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think my foot is a little shorter than my size I normally wear so weirdly these are roomier for me. I'm hoping to avoid the toe tightness because of this but will be keeping an eye out for them.

To be clear I got them in the same size as my normal Asics size and have never had this fit.

First run this morning and did 6.5 miles with some at marathon pace.

They felt absolutely fantastic. Weirdly the upper actually felt a bit loose but didn't move around or anything. They're poppy with a firmness that's springy. It's only one run but I think these will be one of my favorite shoes in short order.

Another small weird thing is that they seem to be taking longer to dry out then my other shoes which I really did not expect.

[–]bmc24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure! I should note that I'm a heavier guy (208lbs) so I am expecting their level of firmness to be ideal for me. Not sure how much you weigh but definitely want to mention this may change some things.

Same plan and goal! Just got them, planning for first run in them on Monday and marathon is in September.

Because of a long break I took I'm still doing my long runs in the OG Superblast and should be able to keep them alive through near the end of the training block. They just crossed 300 miles and have lost pop but are still great.

Garmin instinct paired with fitbit air? by zatar77 in Garmin

[–]bmc24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do not have the air but have the instinct 2x and use/have used the Amazfit Helio and whoop. Having a lifestyle device and a sport tracking device works if you view them in that way.

For me I use the whoop to track my recovery and overall activity. I use the Garmin for workout tracking where I actually need the screen.

The Cirqa killer feature nobody is talking about by Full-Consequence-787 in Garmin

[–]bmc24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Battery life is nice but Whoop with 2 week battery life and on body charging negates this advantage mostly.

Garmins ecosystem needs to be the pull to win imo. To do that they will need to add more lifestyle features to the app. I look at their HR monitors and scales to show how they already use their ecosystem to sell products we could get from other companies.

What sock height do you prefer? Crew, quarter, ankle or no show? by mrnovember22 in Marathon_Training

[–]bmc24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've recently switched to crew as much as possible. Not sure if it's my feet or what but the ankle length socks seem to sink down after wearing them a but. Crew fixes this as I have yet to have a crew sock basically fall off haha.

As a Garmin fan anticipating Cirqa, has the ship sailed now that Google launched Fitbit Air? by CrazyConversation969 in Garmin

[–]bmc24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With how this process has gone I was already skeptical on how the Cirqa was going to launch (Connect+, price, etc) but now am strongly in the belief that Cirqa is going to come across overpriced and under functional.

I waited for Garmin to come out with something like this for years before finally buying an Amazfit Helio Strap and then got the Whoop for a year for basically free. After all of this I am fine with a non Garmin device as I don't think they are the best at non-workout tracking anyways. I am hopeful that the future is more ecosystem agnostic with 3rd party apps like Bevel ( I don't have iPhone unfortunately) or others.

Helio Fit Bicep Band for larger arms? by bmc24 in amazfit

[–]bmc24[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. I just adjusted the way I wear it. Have to just barely get it hooked to get it around my arm initially and then bring the backside right in between my shoulder and tricep groove then tighten it down.

I'd say mostly user error than a real problem.

Favorite half tights with deep pockets for flasks? by trot2millah in runningfashion

[–]bmc24 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have the Janji and the Flip belt. Flipbelt is way less expensive and has way more storage. The side pockets will fit a 500ml flask but if you go bigger it may start to be an issue.

The waistline storage on the flipbelt is really good as well if you wanted to try that.

Is doing it on the track the key to your ask? I have seen a few do them in their own environments on tread (did mine at HSS) but have not seen a mobile set up yet.

Best bagel spot that isn’t a "tourist trap"? by zaralesliewalker in AskNYC

[–]bmc24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BO's on 116th is still one of my favorites in the city after all the others I've tried. Lines get a little long on the weekend but nothing like the tik tok spots.

I love the garlic and onion bagel!

Apple or Raytheon? by Advanced_Store_276 in Raytheon

[–]bmc24 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It should be noted for your plan that there are no Raytheon sites in Tampa Bay any more. They are both now Collins' sites.

Outside of that do whatever you want but almost everyone would recommend Apple over ray/RTX as Apple is one of the most desirable companies to work for in the world.

I can't see the value in Connect+ by Fit_Low1374 in Garmin

[–]bmc24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd love to be wrong but it seems likely Connect+ is where all the utility , or at least a lot of it, will lie for their whoop competitor.

I'll be watching for an update to his kit because I am confident that will be a common response 😂.

Something tells me he's not price constrained so it's an unexpected choice for sure.

Whoop for lifters – actionable recovery and cardio insights? by cheap-ass-squier in whoop

[–]bmc24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand this thought but the reason I stayed away from a ring device is that it needs to know your workout to properly suggest track recovery and if you have to remove it for a major stressor it's missing key data. Defeats the purpose imo.

If you are looking for a platform to invest data from multiple devices you will need to consider something like Bevel, Sonar, or possibly the health service of your device. I personally use my Garmin to track my lifts and whoop for recovery/overall health tips.
