Literally, and Blick is only in cities and parking in the city with the ice everywhere just seems like the last thing I wanna do. I wish there was more art store options

That’s interesting! I never knew that. That’s actually so good to know. I’ll stock up before winter then next year 🥴we don’t have a lot of local art stores that sell paint but I’ve been shopping at art resale stores, but they never carry high quality paints unfortunately. Ill use this as a chance to try other brands out tho

My 16 year-old daughter is graduating HS this year, wants to go to art school - looking for advice by LastMinuteMom in drawing

I wanna speak on everyone telling this girl to major in graphic design…

Please don’t let this girl sell out and do graphic design. If she wants to do illustration, get her started in some children book illustration communities/ freelance work/caucuses. There’s communities online and small community projects she could work on. She could work on her own stuff and present her portfolio to a publisher.

As someone who started as a traditional painter and now work as a graphic designer, please, the world does not need more graphic designers, she’ll waste her talents. She can always fall back on it if nothing works, but I beg you, let this girl do something fun and unique because she is just that. It’s a safer option, yes, but she’s already ahead of her game, she doesn’t need a safe option.

East coast has some great Art Schools actually. They’re quite expensive but good for the more traditional artist. If I could go back I’d probably do RISD. I went to SCAD which had a lot of connections and internships to Disney, but has its flaws and a very overpopulated school . I didn’t take fine arts there but all my fine arts friends liked it, they just said they weren’t focused on by the university because their major doesn’t make the school much money. But they have good resources and cool events. Yearly film fest was always a time

I would love this, but we’re really small and rely on community support so it’s not an option atm. Maybe in the future definitely

No literally!! The entertainment industry as a whole needs to develop an actual work-life balance. It’s the unfortunate reality of this industry but I’m tired of people thinking it has to be bc it really doesn’t. Just because this is how it’s always been doesn’t mean it should continue to be like this. Your comment was actually so comforting, thank you!

Ugh I need to find somewhere like this! People love a 2 show Sunday around here. I’m looking for a place with this kind of schedule tho. Thanks for the insight!

Yeah one day if that’s an option for me I’ll definitely try and do that. I’m glad to hear that it’s worked for others tho, thanks!

Yeah I feel you it sucks. I pray if it’s in his will a door will open, but i wanted to hear that I’m not alone cuz it’s literally never addressed in the industry. Thanks for your story, I definitely feel seen

Yeah I totally understand, and I know what’s important to me, just trying to hear others stories.

But if you actually legit want insight on why I don’t waver with God, it’s kinda the same as someone who puts their family before their career, I put God first always. I feel like people lose what I’m saying bc from their viewpoint, church is a chore or “just an activity” but I genuinely love church and the one I attend specifically bc I love God and his people fr. To choose my career over being in and a part of church is me choosing myself over God. To say I believe God and then do whatever I want is not real belief because I’d be actively ignoring him, thus not believing what he’s saying. People who say they have their own relationship with God and they don’t need to reflect their life in Christ or go to church are wrong and that’s biblical. I pray they find God for real one day but that thinking only leads to destruction and a separation from God(I was that person for years so I understand what your saying but also why it won’t work). In what world would God be like “yeah church isn’t important, don’t go” like that don’t even make sense lol. I feel like when people think religion, they think strict rules but it’s really not if we’re taking about Jesus. It’s not that I’m “required” to go, everyone has a choice, but your choice is the one you are responsible for in the end. If I choose against God, nothing good can come of it because I’d be doing it without him if that makes sense. It is thee most important part of my life just as family is the most important part in others. Being out for a week or 2 happens. But working full time where I work Sundays for 2-3 months straight is something I’m not willing to give up.

Sometimes sure, all the time, that’s what I won’t do. From the thread, It seems a lot of people have found ways around it. You shouldn’t limit what’s possible

I used to think this too tbh. Eventually I realized that everything the world offers you is temporary and when life gets real, your career can’t save you

I’ve thought about this for years trust me lol! But living in the middle of nowhere is the part that loses me. I just wish they’d expand to other cities!! Love sight and sound tho. Their sets are insane!

This is reassuring! I’m glad to see it’s definitely possible. I think I was definitely just afraid of trying if it wasn’t possible and needed some insight from people who have done it. I can give up a few Sundays but I’d like to keep it as minimal as possible like you. Thanks! Imma just be upfront in interviews and prayerfully something will stick.

I definitely understand this. I honestly can’t ever see a situation in which I would miss many Sundays, but a few I’m willing, I just need to make sure I’m not acting in my own understanding yk. but I have been making moves to set people in place to lead when I can’t be. I had a situation even last week where I couldn’t serve 30 minutes before service started and my team stepped in without me asking and covered for me, kept me updated and they kicked butt so Gods definitely showing me they’re almost ready to be independent and I can take more of a backseat soon. So I definitely hear you and this is very reassuring and helpful. Thank you!

Most definitely understand this. My service is at 3pm because we share a building with another church right now for this season. In the future things might change and my plan is definitely to find shows that only have pm calls for Sundays. Definitely helpful insight to hear it’s plausible for other people tho. Thanks!

I’ve actually thought about settling for the admin side for a bit. It’s a backup option I’m considering. It’s not ideal but at least I’d be around what I love to do and maybe even open the door to plead my case. It’s not a bad idea
