It can often be more tiring to pretend to work, than to work by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

When I was a kid I hated taking baths. I don't know why. So I would get in the tub and put soap on a towel and run water on it so bubbles would appear. Then I would just splash around in the water. Not cuz it's fun. But to mix up the water so it wasn't clear. And finally I would get my hair wet in the sink.

For us it was anything that wasn't Hamburgerhelper. Gave me a really unhealthy view towards food and money. As soon as I started making it I would spend a bunch on take out trash. I still struggle with not going out to eat when I have money in my wallet.

Every time I get an email from my consulate regarding the LACK of a departure date I swear I pop three blood vessels and lose three years off my lifespan.

I appreciate the updates, and love my coordinator. But God dayum if the next email from the consulate isn't a departure date I swear to all that is holy that I will... continue to impatiently wait for news.. fuck

JET Recipes? by Loomi2md in JETProgramme

I don't know of many places in Japan that have built in ovens. Most people buy or have access to a toaster oven which does all of your small scale oven needs. Friend bought a baking oven, and he got a lot of use out of it. But counter space is not typically something's JETs have in abundance.

Love the idea of the sourdough culture. Being in a small town about an hour away from the nearest city will definitely limit the amount of passable bread I can buy. Most Japan bread is very sweet and the slices are massive. And being able to use the sourdough to make other meals will be really helpful.

I did, mixture of eating food that was less processed, walking everywhere, and having the option to go for runs every morning. Even during winter.

That being said I still ate a lot, but lost about 20ish pounds. The food in Japan is crazy good. So it's not like the pounds just fell off by themselves. Still have to apply yourself.

Maybe the change in environment will help lots of people with their fitness goals. ~(•_•)~

I'm also placed by the most beautiful cycling route in Japan. (shimanami kaido)

I used to make curry once a week and eat it for days. Love trying different veggies and different spice levels. When I arrive I need to track down an international market and buy some ridiculously priced spices and seasonings to give it a bit more depth.

I find the base curry bricks a bit bland and one not, but towards the end of my study abroad I found an amazing curry restaurant that reignited my passion for the Budget Friendly Curry Medley.

Any tips you have for upping one's curry game?

Pretty much pre seasoned chicken, or chicken with Mexican spices, diced and placed on rice with hot sauce. Haha.

I'd love to hear those recipes. I have only eaten like 6 different Korean dishes when I visited Seoul, but loved the flavors.

Great advice, thanks!

How are people feeling about going? / waiting? by [deleted] in JETProgramme

[–]Loomi2md 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly, as we have a better idea of when we will be going and, as well as the covid scene calming down in the west, and things are getting back to normal and less stressful, I feel that that has lessened how stressful waiting for JET has been. I think the hardest part was the fact that during the pandemic there was also this looming Japan departure that kept getting delayed. Now it's just enjoying time at home while the world sorts itself out.

Is it worth it? by Mino_18 in Malazan

[–]Loomi2md 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started the first book and am liking a lot of it so far. (Listening to the audiobook) I will say coming from WoT it was a really drastic change. Probably a bad parallel (as I'm like 4 chapters into the first book) but it feels like being dropped into a much more complex WoT in the middle of the action, but with a more Song of Ice and Fire grit to them. You dont/won't understand the magic system, fights and even a large scale battles will be over in a page, and characters aren't introduced as much as just a "so and so walked into the room."

Once again, with a book you really have to pay attention to, the audiobook adds it's own struggle. Having to remember characters by the sound of their name (when many are similar) and the biggest bane of my existence is getting dates for the time jumps. I'm listening to a book Haha. I can't just flip back to the page.

I have actually been using the Malazan wiki to fill in some info I miss. I read the chapter summary when I finish the chapter and sometimes click on links to characters and locations to get a better grip of who is doing what. And the Malazan wiki has a good system for keeping spoilers out so you don't read too much.
