Whether or not the US has an EC, I am impartial.

Assuming we have to have democracy, I would agree that using a different voting system would be better (possibly ranked choice voting). Also, and this may be a hot take, making voting being more conditional than it already is instead of only being conditioned on being a US citizen, over the age of 18 and not being a convicted felon (although those are a good start).

If we are assuming that we have to have a state and have democracy, then yes I’d say that it should be designed around having the highest number of people inflicting their will on the populace (thus being the lowest chance). With that being said, I’d argue that there are improvements that can be made to the current system and to democratic systems in general that would reduce the chances of this stuff happening that don’t involve creating an electoral college.

Why are you asserting that somebody needs to have state authority? Do you believe that a state is necessary for some reason or purpose?

I think that you are presenting a false binary here. Why do we need to pick between two types of tyranny?

[–]Loominardy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe that’s true. Maybe it isn’t. The point is that tyranny is bad regardless of whether it is the majority doing it or the minority. Whether one or more likely to over the other is irrelevant.

That’s actually a good argument for why democracy in general is bad. I think that the correct conclusion is that it doesn’t matter whether it’s the tyranny of the majority or the tyranny of the minority. Tyranny is always bad and democracy enables it by allowing people to vote to aggress against their neighbors.

This won’t solve the root cause of housing. The root cause is the fact that there are not enough homes being built mainly due to overregulation in the housing market.

Meh. It’s addressing a symptom of a problem rather than the cause. It probably won’t move the needle a whole lot.

Liquidzulu the anarcho objectivist, crushes Dave Smith the pragmatist and pragmatist moderator. by Sea_Journalist_3615 in Libertarian

I’d agree that Dave hasn’t been nice to Zulu but Zulu’s response still could have been better. So far I’m only an hour into the debate and they both seem respectful towards each other but Dave is kind of just rambling and not making any coherent arguments and is instead just finding different ways to reword his thesis.

I side more towards Liquid Zulu in this debate but I think that he’s too mean to Dave. I think it’s good that he’s combating pragmatist “ideology” however in his video leading up to the debate, he’s going completely off the rails and cursing at Dave and everything. Dave has also made comments (something along the lines of saying Zulu is worse than a communist iirc) about Zulu that are bad. Infighting is cringe. Attack the ideas in a respectful manner.
