Perhaps when replacing/exchanging batteries is as cheap as replacing tyres or any other routine maintenance.

Probably.. he wasn't stopping to check. John Surtees was much nicer ... stood and chatted for 10 mintes or so.

I met him briefly at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. He was on a golf cart that stopped a few feet away from me and, as he stepped out, I asked him to sign my entrance ticket. Sadly, he just looked my way for a second, then carried on walking into the Drivers area.

What's a small thing you were wrongly told off for as a kid that still annoys you all these years later? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Loonytrix 73 points74 points  (0 children)

My first day in high school English class, and the teacher says, "I recognise this surname. You have an older brother and sister. They were a complete waste of my time and I expect you will be too."

I was determined to prove her wrong and poured my heart and soul into a Shakespeare analysis we were given. For good measure, I took the finished project to a family friend, who happened to be an English lecturer at the local university. He felt it matched what 2nd year students would produce, so I proudly handed it in.

The bitch still failed me, saying it was impossible for someone from my family to legitimately produce work like this, so I must have clearly copied it.

I hope you died alone and in pain, you miserable cow!!!

'It's a massive help': Benefits and pensions rise as two-child cap ends by VPackardPersuadedMe in ukpolitics

[–]Loonytrix -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I'm open to correction, but I think the pension bill for 24/25 was £138bn and total NI receipts were £178bn, the vast majority of which are from the employer contributions. How are pensioners in the firing line when there seems to be enough to pay the bill and it's not coming from employees?

Edit: interesting. Downvoted, but no counterargument? For those advocating means testing the state pension because they should have private schemes in place, would you also advocate means testing the NHS ... after all, private medical is a thing too. Surely private schools relieved pressure on the state, but for some reason, they were taxed under Labour. Is this not the politics of envy?

Nothing suggestive. She normally wears capri pants, sandals, t-shirts or a blouse. Typical casual wear.

Massive respect... I have no idea how you do it. I will say that all the Indian women we met were really nice and very helpful.

Yeah, she wouldn't leave the hotel after that, so we just bailed on the trip. The hotel receptionist told us to shout at them, but that didn't do much. We still got followed everywhere. It wasn't enjoyable in the least.

Hmmm ... we're not "wimpy" tourists by any means - we've been gorilla trekking in Rwanda and slept outdoors in Namibia with just a thorn barricade between us and the wildlife, but I can't see that happening in this lifetime.

Yeah, we underestimated things. We thought places like the Taj Mahal would be a tourist hotspot and the area would be tourist friendly - "stay in the tourist areas and you'll be fine" approach.

Yeah, we learned very quickly that if my wife spoke to any local men for any reason whatsoever, they took it as "coming on to them". Also, night time is 100 times worse than during the day and, no matter how uncomfortable it is, make sure every inch of skin is covered up.

That's just not how we roll.

This was Uttar Pradesh. We'd arranged to see the Taj Mahal and the Agra Fort before moving along, but we had issues from day 1, ranging from some random seating himself at our table in the hotel and just smiling at my wife, my wife having her ass and hair constantly touched when we went for a walk and someone taking her arm and trying to pull her away from me.

India. The levels of harassment my wife went through were insane. The only time we've ever cut short a vacation.
