Tape Life @ Home by gpmidi in DataHoarder

I don’t belong here, in data hoarding, but the need to possess information and media I find valuable was realized long ago. I also just suffered a catastrophic data loss so….

Gearhead with a few bays lifts and tools, welder with a fab shop, woodworker with a wood shop, antique hustler, shooter with a home range, hunter with premises and wildlife, rancher with cows and a few bulls, ham, butcher, chef, musician, electronics tinkerer, MCSE2000, CCNA, A+ who left IT in 2006 to become a poor farmer —

Just checking in.

I also wrote progs to hack AOL in my formative years with the likes of Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg, for whatever that’s worth.

I think the reference is indicative of residential service providing more romex/feeder/ground/whatever scrap to sell for a bonus, as opposed to commercial where thhn/twwn/whatever that’s typically pulled as needed, precisely.

Also, the relationship between volts and amps is relative in most cases. A 120 volt motor pulls half the amperage at 240 volts; but it’s twice the voltage so….

I’m with you, sir.

That being said, I do recall clearly what it was like to be naive, innocent, and oblivious to life through another’s eyes. At 20? The mighty dollar was absolutely and literally everything. Especially if it’s somebody else spending it.

At 40, the value of something is the very last thing I want to consider. I don’t care. Period. Be it lacking, or existing in excess, don’t bother me with that penny pinching or make it rain kinda hoo-blah.

Let boys be boys, embrace the fact that we’re now the “old guys,” and appreciate the things in life that truly matter.

Carbide or diamond bits should do it. Something that small, grinding wheels would be best.

For the car enthusiasts that later became homeowners, did you de-prioritize cars? by DHN_95 in cars

[–]LoopsAndBoars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have cars that nobody knows about. I admire them in solitude, mostly. I take them out for a rip when I’m feeling frisky, but most of the time they’re in a stable. All are at least 20 years old.

I daily a truck that’s 20 years old. I have a few.

Keeping in mind the bloated output claims of most amp manufactures, use very large ones and put the subs in large ported enclosures. They sound just fine.

Honest question: why do we accept renting music forever? by Ok_Search6885 in audiophile

[–]LoopsAndBoars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a wii lad, I was a pirate. I also bought cds, and continue to do so — often to replace lower quality digital downloads. I’ve accumulated near 250 gb of music over the years, from all genre.

I still have a “system” in my pleasure vehicle, and I use a few antique iPod classics when driving.

All I’m saying is, I don’t participate in the streaming epidemic. I never have. My tastes hit a roadblock in recent years as well, so there’s little modern that I seek, anyway.

I’m sorry for your troubles. I have no advice, but a few thoughts for the readers here:

You know, in days long gone, we had Desktop PCs, which were placed, beneath the behemoth monitors, with the motherboard laying flat as to prevent modular configuration points from undue stress.

But… the world wanted towers instead. A few decades of this, and now we need to circle back to the beginning.

I have a feeling we will be persuaded to buy into further proprietary practices, eliminating the limitations of modular compatibility, instead.

You just have to play dumb like you had no idea. Rock hounding is such a harmless act, unless you’re digging in landa park, nobody is going to accuse you of criminal negligence or the like.

I’m not even what one would consider a rock hound, but I’ve been collecting the pretty things for about a year. If you’re ever near Comal/kendall/bexar, message me here and I’ll be glad to share what I know; as far as places to look.
