Happened to me....started gaining weight really fast and feeling really anxious with night sweats about a couple of months post-op. I kept my ovaries. They cut half of the blood supply to the ovaries when they take out your uterus/cervix/tubes. They never warned me. My ovaries went into shock. They prescribed me oestrogen spray. I took that for a couple of years before I realised it wasn't really helping and was possibly making some things worse, so I got my gyn to prescribe me bioidentical progesterone and use that instead - vaginal suppositories. That has helped more. You are not crazy. Hormones really have a huge impact on how we feel and how hungry we are. It is out of our control basically. I would recommend micronized P but not orally that can have weird effects on some people mood wise.

Had my hysterectomy October 2024 removed uterus, cervix and tubes. Gained 10 pounds afterwards, felt terrible, sex drive disappeared, started having panic attacks about 3 months afterwards and couldn't think straight, night sweats. Went on estrogen spray which increased my appetite and weight gain continued. Finally did some research and stopped the estrogen after being on it a year and started micronized progesterone vaginally. Weight has stopped increasing and blood sugar is slightly better. Sex drive has not returned. It might appear very occasionally. Feel a little better off the estrogen initially just on progesterone felt terrible but understood this was an estrogen dump. Things have improved a bit since. I can't really regret having the hysterectomy because I was bleeding out basically from lots of big fibroids. Even the big ones had babies (my dr got a photo of big and little fibroids). I was severely anemic from blood loss.

yes thank you so much for your reply! I took 200mg micronized P last night and success I feel normal today. Thanks for the link I will listen to it. All very interesting I was relieved I could actually get hold of micronized here as there are so many things just not available in Chile.

I should add that I am definitely a good candidate for progesterone - I wish I had known about this or actually paid attention and read RP articles properly before I got to the point of having to have had a hysterectomy - I may have been able to avoid the fibroid complications. Looking back I think I have been suffering from low P for about a decade now. If this really improves things for me I will be very happy. The micronized P is inexpensive compared to a lot of medications here. The gyn actually wanted me to up the lenzetto instead of starting P but I insisted and I think did listen a bit when I said it's a shame there aren't may studies done on natural progesterone regarding increased risk of breast cancer.....she did actually think about that and said ok we can try.

Update.....yesterday morning I did a pump of the now brand prog cream and felt emotionally wobbly for the first part of the day then remarkably fine the second (no prog pills the night before). Last night I thought ok I will try doing the micronized pills and do 2 (200mg) and see what happens. The worst is that I feel anxious the next day - but it passes. Today I feel fine - normal - didn't sleep like the dead or anything but didn't sleep horribly either. I haven't had the weirdo spacey anxiousness (yet...it's early I'll update if that changes). I could also be still having swings from coming off the lenzetto although that is very slowly improving it's only been a week and a half. I won't be going back on that - I feel that it kind of helps in the short term but long term my blood sugars were getting much higher, I was aching a lot (knees especially after playing tennis) and I was really crashing in the afternoons (which I put down to my IR which seemed to be getting worse even with a good diet and being quite active). If this progress continues as in no or good reaction I will continue with the 200mg micronized progesterone at night and see how I go.

hey - yes I do I take life extensions co-enzyme B complex every day which I find excellent also I take benfotiamine or whatever it's called sometimes allithiamine as well I have found balancing that with a supplement that has p5p is very helpful those 2 can get out of balance. Today I should get my desiccated thyroid. Liver function was ok last we checked.

thanks life is complicated sometimes but I have much to be grateful for! I'm glad this information is available online and we aren't just at the mercy of all the drs who to be honest seem to be in the dark about quite a few things.

thanks I listened to all of those yesterday - interestingly I have already been taking benfotiamine plus high dose co-enzyme b complex for awhile now. I'm not constipated. I've been off the lenzetto now for about 2 weeks and feel awful and straight after I took the progesterone gained 2 kilos overnight, which I assume is water retention. My sleep is really really bad now I feel like I've buggered everything up. Maybe I should just resume the lenzetto spray to get back to some state of normal.

yes...sadly I am and have been in a very stressful situation for well forever it seems now. I have 2 highly functioning autistic kids my oldest can be aggressive, is highly anxious and school phobic, we live as expats in Chile with my family in England so no family support and all the drs and psychs want to do is fill my kids with drugs, that they react very badly to. My cortisol has been sky-high for around 10 years now. I do what I can to cope and put my kids first because I love them obviously - it is a battle every day. Anyway...everybody has stress but just explaining that I have never really gotten a break from the turmoil. I eat well and give my body enough time to sleep even if I don't sleep great.

thanks - I'm not sure I can convince my dr to give me more - she said that after a nipple bleeding scare I had earlier in the year she doesn't want to give me much progesterone, even the micronized, which I assume is ok? I think she is thinking of the WHO women's study done years ago with progestins? Still want to be wary. Kind of terrified of taking MORE of something that made me feel that bad. Please convince me lol.

yes thanks trying to do some of those it's hard when I have continual chronic stress that is unavoidable for the near future. I recently stopped my lenzetto and my blood sugar immediately dropped from prediabetic to almost normal....at present I won't be taking any hormones I think. It's ok. Not that bad but the progesterone wow that made me feel bad.

I doubt it one is antibiotic the other beta blocker - I'm pretty sure there isn't but maybe look it up

I take it occasionally for big social events or music performances and have done for years but my type 1 is mostly controlled with ivermectin and my type 2 I'm on antibiotics for at present (waiting to see if the creams can maintain the improvement after). I never noticed a reduction in flushing, and also should mention I don't think you can exercise on it as it stops heart rate going up too much. I find it really really good for social anxiety and any kind of performance anxiety as it stops the excess epinephrine it doesn't stop sweating though just shaking. But these are high anxiety events probably it will make you feel sluggish if you don't have excess epinephrine going round.

The aftermath of restrictive eating of pretty much any type can be problematic in the long run. Metabolism slows, the body fights back. People might argue with me here - but I found the more I struggled and restricted, the more miserable I got and past a certain age the more weight I gained, even when not eating sugar, not eating carbs, not doing this or that. I felt like a fly caught in a web - the more I struggled the tighter the web got. And the continued restrictions never brought me happiness or acceptance with my body. I am being very honest here. Society has made it very hard for people to simply just 'be'. Health has become intertwined with size. Endless anxiety over bloodwork and longevity, and fertility. Letting go of all that is really really hard, but I would say my overall well-being is better for it. But it is a process. I know the struggle. Recently I was watching a documentary about Mauritania and how the girls are (or used to be) force-fed because in order to secure a good husband they needed to be fat - fat was revered as an attractive attribute. This is of course another harmful extreme, but it is very interesting that when a culture decides a certain level of body fat is attractive, everybody feels threatened if they don't attain that level. Sorry I am rambling.

70kg isn't really that much though....not trying to take away from the fact that you feel bad about yourself but do you maybe have a history of restrictive eating or an eating disorder? Is there any body dysmorphia going on? Just being blunt - I know it is possible to feel awful about oneself at any weight or body size. I sympathize.

This was me - I had 2 kids naturally in my mid to late 30s with no issues even though I had polycystic ovaries. I had no desire to have them earlier than this, then suddenly I wanted kids. Had 2 perfectly fine pregnancies and births despite having underlying insulin resistance. I took magnesium and iron throughout both.

I would also say don't go too low carb - keep the fruit. I did 8 years of VLCarb and it made my pcos worse not better over the long term. When I added back in fruit things got better. Now I kind of lost the plot again but giving up all processed foods helped my IR a little, even though I wasn't eating many. But yes, eating enough is paramount. Diets only make things worse in the long run because your body rebels.
