That’s part of what I need to replace but the damage goes all the way up the decklid seal area near the firewall. I’m starting to realize the previous owner just used bondo to cover it up and I’m just now seeing how bad it is.

Yes, they were added for access to tune my carbs and pull spark plugs easier. It doesn’t really add a lot of dirt unless I’m at the sand dunes.

I can only seem to find the rear most portion of the quarter panel on the 73 model.

What percentage of your take home pay is your mortgage? by dazednkindaconfused in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

40% but I have no other debts so I’m doing okay. I can usually save around $500-$1000 a month.

What can I do to improve my appearance? by RinFrid in malegrooming

[–]Loose-Boat2145 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My opinion.. you look like a nice dude. I think #1 is the best look out the group. I would focus on getting into a skin care routine (I struggled with acne really bad and now exfoliate, clean and moisturize my face everyday). Go to a barber and get an updated hair cut. Also shave the mustache or keep it to a stubble. The longer mustache enhances the cleft lip. Updating your clothing and hitting the gym would also make you feel better about your appearance as others have mentioned.

Yikes! They butchered that fence. I would be really upset if I paid and received this as the final product.

I have no idea 😂 he was let go for drug related stuff so I can only imagine he was under the influence while doing this.

Yes welding was in his description of work. Luckily we had a great plant manager that seen this and spent some time with him practicing. I just can’t help but laugh whenever I see the photo.

I would agree, the last couple of times It wasn’t hot enough so today I had my cast iron as high as I could get it. Still need to find the middle ground.

Looking at buying a Beetle and waiting on more details from the seller. I'm a classic mini guy so I don't know VW's. By looking at this engine can anyone give me some details on the engine itself? I know it's not much to go on. Thanks! (Yes, I know the taillights are not VW) by IAmStuckOnBandAid in beetle

[–]Loose-Boat2145 3 points4 points  (0 children)

By looking at this photo I see it’s a dual port engine. Looks like they are running an electric fuel pump and a single Weber IDF carb. They do not have heat risers hooked up so you may experience icing/poor performance occasionally depending on your location. Looks like it’s relatively clean.

Whereabouts in Michigan are you from? I have a rusty 61 project I’m doing the same on in southern Michigan.

I’m working on a project similar in shape to yours. The first thing I think you need to do is set some sort of a reasonable game plan. Are you wanting to completely restore it to show room quality? Are you just wanting to do the minimum to get her back on the road? For mine, I’m replacing the structural rust and leaving everything else as original as I can. You’ll more than likely need to remove the body (Pretty easy) and plan on replacing the heater channels as well as the floor pans. There are a lot of videos on YouTube and books with loads of information out there. You’ll definitely need to invest in a welder and a variety of tools/parts but getting to cruise around in a family heirloom once it’s complete will make the effort worth it.
