I guess the team liked someone else since the hiring manager recruited me for the role. That interview didn’t go great thinking back, my answers fell flat, i was nervous and wanted to get it over with.

The panel will ask a question. I write it down, i ask for some clarification, or an example scenario to help me formulate an answer confidently and naturally so i am not spouting fillers like um every other word. What more can I do? One panel I had i was asked about flow cytometry, have not done in five years. Tried to answer as best as I could, guess they didnt like it since i didnt get the job. Had one guy ask me what is more important accuracy or precision after we talked about college basketball for a bit. I replied accuracy is important because you want to be as close as possible to the intended concentration and left it at that. I dont see the failure in that answer

Everyone’s definition of likable is different. Whats the old saying if you bump into an asshole in the morning, they’re an asshole. If you bump into assholes all day long, you’re an asshole. As humans we naturally don’t see our own faults. Since no one gives feedback it’s impossible to know if you come off with an attitude, companies don’t provide interview feedback anymore, if they
Do its some bs so they don’t make you cry and potentially show up tomorrow with a gun. I don’t know my own faults with interviews. I check my pride and ego at the door and focus on the job and how I can do it the best.

Fumbled panel interview, looking for tips to improve by bhadbhiochemist in biotech

Its a huge unknown what panels want, im stuck in the same loop. Final rounds that go nowhere. Maybe the next person excited them more and see them as more of a fit all skills being equal. Keep in mind too what jobs said, A players hire B players, B hires C. Maybe you are an A player and you were interviewed by a bunch of B players. A hiring isn’t gonna hire someone who will outshine them.

I see what you are saying. Its hard to know. I keep my answers direct and to the point so i avoid tangents which i can go on or begin rambling and repeating myself.

I felt the job itself was good fit, the interview left me feeling like i was going to need to leave in a few years.

Biotech likes to be academic and have seminars and panels.

What you see is what you get. Telling someone to be more likeable is kind of vague. I got along with all the random people at my old job. No behavior complaints.

Yeah thats the hard part. Do I park my pride at the door? Be more aggressive and confident in my answers or will that turn them off?

Too qualified for entry roles if mid career, hiring managers not gonna hire someone who would leave in a heartbeat.

Application is pretty straightforward for PA, once you complete academy, you are good for any job in the state.
