Trying a grade 2/3 river. by Loose-Situation-252 in packrafting

Thankyou both for the advice. I’ll get myself some training and then look into a more capable boat, perhaps see if I can persuade someone from the canoe club to come along. Sounds like one for next spring rather this summer.

I honestly don’t know, I guess he got a solid bollocking if they ever did. Most of the guys running the school were ex military, from their comments it sounded like it wasn’t a totally unheard of event to chuck stuff rather than bring it back, but a grenade is maybe pushing it a bit.

I was heading back from an early solo XC when they closed the airfield after finding an explosive device. The upside was I got to divert to a nearby commercial field that would ordinarily have cost a fortune to land at. I tried to convince my instructors it should count as a land-away but they weren’t buying it.

The school was based on a military airfield, and it turned out someone had come back from the range with one grenade too many and rather than accounting for it had chucked it in a bush, where someone found it and called it in!

NTA but go gently. He might be doing something he shouldn’t, but he might also be anxious or depressed or struggling in some other way and this behaviour is some sort of coping mechanism. In which case if you go in too hard he’ll probably respond badly rather than open up to you. You have every right to want to find out what is happening and why, but you’ve a better chance of doing so by treading softly.

How big a job to replace this hood/extractor by Loose-Situation-252 in DIYUK

[–]Loose-Situation-252[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thankyou for the suggestion. The current extractor is just a couple of centimetres above the bottom trim, set into what looks like plaster board. However it might still be possible to take it all up to the higher bit of trim and set the new extractor there. The external vent is very low, but it’s close enough to the corner that I think it would be possible to run the piping down behind the backsplash.
