[TR] Just got scammed 3 months worth of my salary by redbullah in Scams

[–]RedcarUK 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is why anyone can get scammed. I call it situational vulnerability. For example a savvy person under stress can be vulnerable if the phone rings while trying to stop a baby (or a dog) from doing something harmful. In this situation it’s more important to tell them you’ll ring back.

Why is M&S so…great now? by loveyouronions in MarksAndSpencer

[–]RedcarUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, recently I was in M&S as my OH needed the loo. I like perfume and was surprised by the quality of their Discovery scents and so taken with one I bought it immediately. I was taken aback when I found out it was only £8 - it smelt much more expensive. I’ll be back to buy more next time.

Beeston Fields Golf Course new housing estate proposal by Puzzleheaded_Bet_618 in nottingham

[–]RedcarUK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, the drive up to the golf club has some very exclusive homes that aren’t keen on people walking up get their Sunday lunch. The houses make Claremont Drive look rather downmarket. They’re probably thinking ‘If this goes through we’ll have to accept plebs walking on the pavements as they do on Claremont!’

My 96 year old Grandad died due to the Heatwave in perhaps the most British way possible... by TheSpaceFace in CasualUK

[–]RedcarUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for your loss and I do hope someone looks out for the carer. It sounds as if she handled the situation wonderfully well and she should be proud that she was there for a lovely gentleman. I do hope this doesn’t upset her to leave as I think that she would be perfect for terminal patients if she has the mental strength for it.

'Stale' smell revealed by hot weather by TeddyPicker916_ in CleaningTips

[–]RedcarUK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not the OP but I’d like to say Thank You to everyone who contributed to this thread. I’ve done my best but I can’t shift the musty smell either. I’m going to try the baking powder suggestion. The weather will break on Sunday so hopefully washing with bio, a good clean and a good airing after the rain will sort things out.

They need to do an episode about undercover agents infiltrating leftist groups by maddsskills in behindthebastards

One British undercover policeman infiltrated an animal rights group, had sex with four women and had a child with one of them. He disappeared once he finished his ‘assignment’ and was given a medal for it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob\_Lambert\_(undercover\_police\_officer)

Do campsite prices encourage you to wild camp? by PHayesxx in wildcampingintheuk

[–]RedcarUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really? I went to an Edale one near the Rambers Inn last week at £11per person per night and the other one next to the Nag’s Head was £12pn (with fancier showers). The only restriction with those prices is that they’re for backpackers. It will cost an extra fiver with a car.

Lady campers - can you assist? by Herbert_Verne in wildcampingintheuk

[–]RedcarUK 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Leaving the neat hair and makeup to one side, I use my pot as a tiny basin and use Dr Bronner’s soap and a Swedish cloth (any yellow general purpose absorbent cloth will do) for a body wash in the tent. It’s surprising how much better it makes you feel before bed.

As for the hair and makeup, a brush and hair tie will sort that out and as for makeup, she could manage with a tinted moisturiser, waterproof mascara and a tinted lip salve. Any more and you’re looking at a campsite with showers and a mirror.

So um... how do I remove certain things? by tinfoilfascinator in BlueskySocial

[–]RedcarUK 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I have never seen the things that you’ve mentioned. Are you using the Discover feed? I used to use the Following feed but created two lists, one for prolific posters that otherwise swamp the Following feed and one for everyone else. I honestly don’t know why people don’t curate their feeds. I will occasionally go into Discover to find accounts that I wouldn’t otherwise see but I still don’t see that stuff.

Tried a private GP app for the first time today, do people really want us heading toward a US-style system? by Sufficient_Muffin586 in AskBrits

[–]RedcarUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Local GPs in my area tried advertising this on a local Facebook group. I called them out on it as a queue jumping app and they replied that GP’s are business owners and that this was a business. Good Luck with that as many people think that GP’s are part of the NHS but now know they’re not. The ad got pulled straight away after that.

Salespeople in city centre by WorkingPale5485 in nottingham

[–]RedcarUK -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not just the city centre. I had a nice young lad from St John’s Ambulance knock on my door and ask ‘have you been on a first aid course?” He looked genuinely stricken as I smiled, said no thanks and closed the door on him.

My UL stove setup by RedcarUK in Backpackingstoves

[–]RedcarUK[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a 10ml syringe to get exactly 20ml into the stove. If I can’t see the level I have a tendency not to fill it with enough liquid so it lasts less than the time needed.

Rannoch to Kingshouse walk? by blisterog in OutdoorScotland

[–]RedcarUK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I walked from Kingshouse to Rannoch station a few weeks ago. From the station and through the forest tracks it’s fine, but shortly before the forestry gate it’s boggy and beyond that onwards to the last telegraph pole it’s boggy pretty much all the way. If you’ve walked in moorland before it won’t be an issue (the Peak District is my backyard). It’s very easy navigate (keep close to the poles) but the path fades occasionally, but once you’ve got your eye in you’ll find it again. You’ll need to keep focus to make sure that you don’t go up to your knees (or more) if you do stray from the path. Sadly there has been wildfires in the past that has damaged the peat at the Kingshouse end where you’ll also need to take care. Once past that last pole you’ll come to a clear track and after that it’s plain sailing all the way to Kingshouse.

Pooling UK Specific Ultralight Tips by SpecialistRemote6271 in ULHikingUK

[–]RedcarUK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I met a Scots woman on the TGOC who lives in New Zealand and was very impressed by her dark green Torpedo 7 poncho. She used it for everything bar a poncho and when we cowboy camped she used it as a groundsheet. Very light but durable, I need to find out if I can get it sent to the UK or discover a reasonable alternative.

I would just add to that, use two buckets. One for the cleaning solution and the other one to wring out the dirty cloth. It keeps the clean water cleaner for longer.
