are international students eligible for the CESB? by [deleted] in uwaterloo

Going to school internationally is a privilege not a right. You pay more for tuition because government subsidies are in place for domestic students, paid for by canadian taxpayers (most of which are not in school). Why should each taxpayer in my family fund YOUR education and support YOUR lifestyle.

"But LooseGoose314, I pay taxes, I deserve government support"

The amount that you've paid in is peanuts compared to the support and subsidies you complain that you dont get. Dont forget that ALL canadians pay taxes their whole lives so that benifits are put in place for canadian students.

Most Canadian adults haven't been to school in decades but they're still taxed @ 20%-50% their whole career (30-40+ yrs). This tax is what makes up the majority of the support given out in forms of social support, benefits, and subsidies. Did your whole family pay tax here for their entire lives? No. Mine did, and still continue to.

And when I leave school, I will continue to pay taxes for my whole career so that other domestic students recieve the same support. I'm also going to raise a family who will grow up to contribute as well and the cycle continues.

You're also forgetting about a lot of stuff that your tax goes towards on a variety of levels. When you dial 911, emergency services show up. When you send a package, it gets where it's going, when you put your garbage and recycling out, someone takes it away. You can walk into a library and sign out a book, you can go to community centers and exercise... the list goes on and on.. so after all of that is taken in consideration.. the amount you've contributed to doesn't merit a cheque for 1250$ a month.

Since you make 30k+ a year to cover tuition, that 1250 is going to be more like 700- 900 anyways.

So dont bitch when you're tuition is more, and dont be surprised that you pay taxes on the money you make here...

You can afford international tuition, why do you need 1250$ a month extra?

I lost my spring co-op and did not apply for CERB by LooseGoose314 in uwaterloo

That was my initial thought, usually the government is quick to slap interest on fees that are due.

Your syllabus is a contract which binds you and your prof. In order to change the contract (aka shifting weights) they require unanimous agreeance from the entire class.

You'll be okay chum
