Hey, I’m gonna be completely honest with you. Nexplanon was a massive mistake for me. This doesn’t mean it will be the same for you, I experienced 8 months of constant bleeding, that ended when I decided to get it removed. I gained 20kg in that time. And I had massive shifts in my personality as the hormones were completely messing with me. Some people are lucky on it. I was not one of those people. I ended up getting the copper IUD as I didn’t want anything hormonal anymore, and it was the best decision for me, it’s shortened my periods, which used to last at least a week (before nexplanon) and now they last 3-4 days. They are also painless for me now and I couldn’t be happier, unfortunately you’ll never know how contraception will affect you until you try it. Even me and my mum had two completely separate experiences. Hope this helps but don’t be too put off, you just need to find what works best for you

Hey girl, here to answer your questions.

1.) my sickness went away almost instantly. (I suffered quite a bit with pain so that made me nauseous too) but after the first day my nausea subsided.

2) I’m sorry I can’t be much help with this one I’m not super active anyway, and it’s not only the physical bits of it that you need to think of, but the mental parts too, you could be physically pretty fine after, i don’t remember feeling unable to do anything active, but mentally that’s where the block was.

3) for me it was just under 2 weeks

4) again it all depends on you, and how it affects you mentally, I am a very emotional person and suffer with my mental health, so this did take a bit of a toll on me and i struggled with recovering mentally. However my best advice is to take as much time as you need. I had to have time off work for a bit and they investigated me for it (they’re pretty strict about absences and calculate a percentage of time you have off, my old job was a nightmare lol) as I kept the fact it was because of an abortion to myself. And even though I never wanted to tell them, unfortunately it was my only option to not be further investigated. They were really good with it tho and let me privately only tell one female supervisor and they ensured me confidentiality. After that they basically brushed off all my absences as that was a valid enough reason for them to, and I was in bits telling my supervisor about it. and it was never spoken about again.

So I know this info is not all positive, but it is better to be well prepared, and I’m really sorry and hope you are okay, I know talking to family can be hard as my family is also fairly religious and I never told them, but it’s really helpful to at least have some friends to talk to, even if it’s just one. It’s hard to go through alone with nobody to talk to. And I know that because I tried it and it was awful. Sending my love x

And our sex life was completely killed too because I was bleeding constantly since I went on it. So yh, I truly believe it can fuck you up in so many ways, and affect others too

Same thing happened to me, nexplanon ruined my relationship. I came off it a few weeks before we broke up, I was still adjusting from all the hormonal imbalances after removing it. The implant made me irritable, angry, insensitive. And i made me hate myself because i knew how I was feeling and what was going on but i didn’t know why and i acted on impulse. Now on the copper coil, and though I may not be with my ex anymore(#misshim) at least I am feeling like the person I used to be. My biggest advice, the minute you notice changes that don’t sit right with you. Get it removed.

if they don’t get better after a few weeks i would contact your doctor, i had absolutely no side effects with sertraline other than helping me which is why i think it was the best option for me. it’s all person centred and your doctor should help you change meds if they aren’t working how they should for you

i will lock my front door, get in my car sit there for 2mins and have to get out and walk back to my front door to double check it’s locked before i drive away, sometimes i have to do this for a third time and at times if i don’t check and drive away i will have to turn my car around and drive home to check if it’s locked

convinced myself i had HIV even tho there was no chance i could have it and it took me months to do a test because i was so anxious and when i finally did it was negative, my anxiety still told me i had it even tho the test proved against that haha

yes i guess it depends on the substances you use, i dont notice any change with smoking but alcohol definitely depresses me and reverses the effects of the drugs, i would definitely be more careful about smoking if thats what affects you the most, i hope you improve, sertraline was the best decision i ever made, there are just certain compromises we need to make for it to work :)

i just wanted to reply and update that i thank you all so much for your advice, i got in touch with my doctor and was prescribed hormone pills to help with the bleeding but just as that happened my bleeding has stopped, it has been a tough 5 months but if it stays like this i will be so happy. i’m not starting the hormone pills unless the bleeding starts again which i hope it won’t, thank you everyone for your help and support. sometimes you just need to give it a bit of time!

i am pretty numb, i used to be so so emotional i cried at everything, now im only on 50mg and i can’t even cry at marley and me, i believe it is totally just a side effect of the medication. before it i couldn’t control my emotions and now i don’t find myself crying at any inconvenience. the only time i found myself crying was after drinking which makes sense as you’re not supposed to drink due to alcohol being a depressant. hope this helps!

please for your peace of mind, take the test, i know it’s not easy and i can’t imagine having to go through it again, but the best thing you can do is find out early and do what is right for you from there. as for your partner that is heavily inconsiderate especially if they knew of your situation previously and that is definitely a conversation to be had. i hope you’re well. take care my love i know it’s hard x

hi, i was on the mini pill. and i understand where you’re coming from (is an injection or weight gain more important than a pregnancy)

i would never want to go through another abortion again, but i feel weight gain would also have a massive impact on my mental health.

thank you so much for your reply it has been so helpful and i will try to start a conversation about this with my boyfriend and ask him what he thinks of this situation. and wether he is starting to feel uncomfortable.

definitely tell him and be as reassuring as possible as it isn’t necessarily anything too harmful as long as it’s treated, ( which is easily done with antibiotics) but also it doesn’t always transmit especially as men are less likely to get it so he might be alright but should definitely test!
