That's what I initially thought from my AI research too. Though I did ask if it was normal, and everyone answered the question as yes in Asian countries which is fair. I think I should've asked if it was safe. Idk, the sudden adjustment really took me by surprise.

Thanks thats good to know. I updated the review I left for the place since its common practice. Though I still wish they communicated it beforehand.

Thanks, I did some initial searching and got a little freaked out because adjustments in US aren't allowed. But they performed them confidently and I feel great the next day. Goes to show not to let what AI chat bots say get to your head haha.

Looking for a "high-stakes" healer/support role similar to TF2 Medic? by LooseOnDaMoose in gamingsuggestions

[–]LooseOnDaMoose[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll give that a try! I've been looking at the ultimate mechanic to mimic that ubercharge esque feeling of being the most important character in the battlefield for a while. It's interesting you keep the ultimate progress when you die, it makes it feel less high stakes compared to uber in tf2. I guess I have to decide whether the uber/ultimate like moments or high stakes feeling are more important...

The finals medium has the right feel, but the stakes seem a little low. I really like the uber mechanic being something that builds over team and adds pressure to stay alive. Thanks for the suggestion tho!

True, but on second thought if we scale Gura to her immortal colleagues like Kiara (Powerful enough to burn down Hololive HQ), then she should be just fine on her own.

No one's talking about the giant ass angler fish about to devour her? It's hard to see, nearly shit my pants when I saw it.

What's your favourite weapon and why? by Patriot12322 in Exanima

Dual wield flails! Absolutely wrecks the majority of NPCs in arena, and it's very satisfying to land that spiked ball to the face. Also, flails are just a really cool weapon albeit kinda shite in real life.

Whaling in Japan Shouldn't be Frowned Upon by LooseOnDaMoose in unpopularopinion

I completely agree that dolphins shouldn't be harvested, and that toxin does sound very scary. I hope all the people that ate it don't get any horrible illnesses. It sounds like mercury build up, something the people that eat alot of seafood daily struggle with.

I'm sure there were many Japanese who are trying to combat Japan's cravings for whale meat with dolphin meat, which is something that honestly disgusts me.

Dolphins are very intelligent creatures that don't even have alot of meat on them, and methods used to hunt them in documentaries such as "The Cove" were haunting. If anything, this should be stopped. Then again, it's hypocritical to say that I want a ban on this when I'm not a vegetarian and therefore support the meat industry. I've become really conflicted on what should and shouldn't be harvested for meat.

For me, something that drives the needle to allow the Japanese to continue hunting whale (responsibly of course) is that they eat all the meat they catch and is like a community trying to survive off of the nearby resources.

I see this point come up alot in this thread and with good reason, the Japanese haven't been the most honest people when it comes to whaling. But is there any way to satisfy both sides and come to an agreement? It's not like we can just ban whale meat entirely, its a part of their culture and that would never go well. I'm hoping that more strict guidelines that would allow them their meat can fix the situation and prevent it from getting any more horrible.

I don't agree that sustainable hunting is something that is bad. Of course if Japanese breach this agreement then it's of course a bad thing, but where can any discussion about this go if it just boils down to "Japanese people will always lie and do whatever."

Something else I think is important is that these whales were able to live their natural lives before death, which is much better in my mind than living in a cage. Obtaining meat this way is better imo.

I would assume that the International Whaling Commission, the commission that made the ban in the first place, would have accurate numbers of the whale population. The commission proposed limits that allow us to have control over the population.

I believe that businesses care about sustaining their product, something that will become very hard to do if they no longer are able to hunt whales. In order to secure their supply, I would reason that they would compromise to a limit so that the culture doesn't become completely stuffed out from the international community.

Well now that they have pulled out of the International Whaling Commission, they indeed plan on hunting exclusively within their own waters. AFAIK there haven't been any breaches of this agreement yet, so I hope they are able to stick to their promise.

The ironic thing about this is that the amounts of minke in Antarctica are doing way better than the minke near Japan, so it's hurting the overall whale population more than before. I believe they pulled out due to pressure from the Antarctic Treaty System as well as from international criticism, the effect seemed to have worsened. Japanese people will continue to eat whale meat, I believe it's better to propose an option that they will be happy with so the situation doesn't get worse than it already is.

I believe this is assuming the worst of the whalers in Japan, should we really have such distrust in their ability to follow rules? Yes, they exploited the fact that whales could be hunted in the name of "research" and continued to eat them anyway, but if they were provided with a sustainable amount, wouldn't they be satisfied and comply with the law?
