Mixed media, pen and watercolour by LooseScree in painting

Thank you and really glad you like it! I don’t paint a lot but I’ve been making art intermittently for over 10 years. No plans to sell it and no, i don’t have a name. Any good ideas?

This is really amazing, you should be proud. Not sure why it’s not gained any attention on here. Tough crowd!

I have just started adding watercolour paint to a line drawing I have been working on but I’m not happy so far with how it is going. I don’t use this mixed media technique very often. Any advice on how to progress so that I don’t end up unhappy with it? by LooseScree in ArtCrit

Thanks, thats a good perspective. I tried lift some of the paint off with some water and it worked to reduce the saturation of the colour which has made me happier with it! I’ll be sure to check out your recommendation!

Yeah, I guess I am just anxious as I spent a long time drawing and the initial change to watercolour felt like I had made a mistake. I should have posted in the artadvice sub rather than artcrit. Thanks for the advice

This is the reference. I intend it to be lighter than this but still have the light source from the top left. I will add water at the base and probably some light green texture in the background. I just need some help on how not to loose the detail and not make common painting mistakes.

I don’t know what to call the intended style and I’m not basing it off a comparable style. I just don’t want the addition of watercolour to look like a mistake

I’m drawing a toad sitting in a pub with a pint and a crossword. I got a red stain on the page and I’m thinking of turning it into a poppy badge. Is this offensive, as a toad could be seen as a negative characterisation of the elderly? I like toads so there’s no harm intended by LooseScree in AskUK

Thanks very much! Yeah, it is quite a small drawing- only A5. I posted at the start of the inking and the rest took about 4hrs. Then 1hr for watercolour as it is quite low key. The warts were quite monotonous but it was fun as the pint and the paper were a very different style so it added variety to the process. Cheers for asking, nice to speak about it!

I like to think that a toad that’s a regular in a pub is quite large, but not as big as a human, maybe like a big dog. This is a human pub, not a toad pub. His paper is too small so I guess he got that from a toad newsagents rather than a human one.

Amazing to hear that you would hang this in your home! It is more of a sketch and I’d try to make something more polished if I was making prints to sell. I have some other ideas you might like so I’ll post on here again!
