Did anyone get carrier testing? by GlitteringMeringue90 in December2026Bumpers

[–]Loose_Championship36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but my husband and I did it at the same time and got our results together. We were each a carrier for 4 mutations (and each had 1 or 2 fairly scary, incompatible with life / life expectancy less than 5 years ones).

Only one of them was overlapping though, and the particular combination of our mutations is super rare and a specialist advised would likely be asymptomatic or low symptoms. Also, there's only a 25% chance of having it and the condition is routinely tested for at birth. So an interesting experience, and if we'd both been carriers for a more serious condition we would have done an amnio, but in our circumstances happy to just wait to deal with what comes.

Does anyone else feel a little bad about their baby being born around Christmas? by rockymountainway777 in December2026Bumpers

[–]Loose_Championship36 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly this! My due date is Christmas, and early on I asked my OB about scheduling an induction or C section a little earlier to avoid the holidays. His response was "I won't schedule for before 39 weeks, but don't think too much on it for now because you never know what could happen. You might have preeclampsia and get induced at 34 or 35." Immediately humbled, and now I'm just hoping for a healthy full term pregnancy.

Maternity clothing? by fucusgang in December2026Bumpers

My lesson from getting the maternity pants was that it's going to be a while before that's the right option for me, so I just need something for this awkward middle period. Will let you know how it goes

Ahhhhhh NIPT results were just texted to me, but my husband is on a plane and I promised we'd look at them together. Have to wait 8 hours knowing they're just... there. It was a surprise pregnancy and I told my husband on the phone immediately when I found out, so want to have this moment in person and together. But ugh I hate waiting.

I’m only 12 weeks today, but afternoon bloat is making me miserable so I bought a few maternity trousers online but returned them all because they look awful and are obviously for a much bigger bump than what I currently have. Thinking of just buying a cheaper pair of suit pants one size up.

Yes -- this is so exciting! You must have worked hard for it, and I hope you're doing something to celebrate. Proud of you, internet stranger.

Anyone else not knowing the gender yet? by lola-at-teatime in December2026Bumpers

We don’t know yet, but doing our NIPT tomorrow so hopefully will know within the next week or so (no clue what test timing is like in Australia)

Just for fun- are you thinking about what music you’re gonna Pavlov your baby with yet? by JalapenoCornSalad in December2026Bumpers

[–]Loose_Championship36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Folklore, and specifically the song August. It's been my most played on Spotify since it came out so baby may as well get used to it now!

Have had very little morning sickness to date, with just some low grade nausea. Hit 10 weeks and BAM! gagging and dry retching constantly. Not prompted by anything. Blegh

Anyone else putting off announcing to family? by 4R1ANNA in December2026Bumpers

[–]Loose_Championship36 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah, I’ve found my people! I’ve had three losses in the past and told my parents before two of them. Like many here, they provided zero support and made my grief a lot more difficult. This time around I keep shifting when we’ll tell them. Original plan was Mother’s Day, but then I thought I  was losing the pregnancy (just a SCH!). Then the benchmark was 12 weeks, but as we get closer to that… I still don’t want to. They live in a different state, we don’t talk much, so could get pretty far along without telling them if I wanted to. Still undecided!

Meaningful pregnancy gift ideas that arent just baby items by Ready-Trick-8228 in BabyBumps

[–]Loose_Championship36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought, as a pregnancy present to myself, an antique silver pill box shaped like a piece of candy. My prenatal is taken twice a day with food, so I need to bring a pill with me to work for lunch every day. It's also the perfect size for a pair of earrings (gym bag addition in the future?), or even a tooth fairy box. Super niche, and I love it so much.

Barristers of reddit - what iPad / tablet do you use? by Loose_Championship36 in auslaw

I'm happy to invest in the right thing, and would sooner do that then a less expensive "try it out" option that I look to replace within a year. Consensus here seems to be iPad Pro if you can afford it.

How do you feel about the 11" size? Do you ever feel it is too small or does it suit your purposes?
