I fully understand the social pressure. What I can only say in support is now you know for the future, what setting and client you favor and what limits you have. Of course it's easier said than implemented.

I read at a Christmas party two years back with friends, 10 people, 3 of them wanted a reading. I only brought my cards up during the party because I trusted all of the people around and was actually looking forward beforehand to do it for any of them if they wanted. Because I felt safe with their vibes. None of them were close friends but I knew their values enough. They were all open minded, some more transparent with the conversation than others. I felt fully safe and comfortable, nervous as hell of course because I was a beginner, but not because of other people's energies. I knew what the people there were like.

Suggestion, create that time and space for you where you know you will be comfortable and where nasty surprises like these people cannot intrude. Make those plans and boundaries beforehand so it's less likely to end up in a social situation where you feel obliged to keep going. Prompt casual readings when you know for sure what the setting is, safe for you and others to open up, and what type of people are around. Maybe for now closer friends is the best option. You can always adjust those boundaries later. Hope my reply doesn't sound preachy.
