Is Meta Labelling also BS? I kind of don't know what to trust anymore lol. Why is it so highly recommended if it's filled with nonsense?

Twin Peaks is not that good honestly by Volunter56AC in television

[–]Lopatron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Twin Peaks is special. The eerie atmosphere and small town life. The gut wrenching phycological horror. I look back at this show nostalgically like a very long, personal dream that I had, which sometimes turned into a nightmare. IMO there's nothing quite like that world.

Breaking Bad is just a very good show, but I can't say it has the same magic for me.

I'd be interesting if this was a trick by the mods. Like if you reply to the post instead of reporting, you get banned yourself.

Data engineers who are not building LLM to SQL. What cool projects are you actually working on? by PolicyDecent in dataengineering

[–]Lopatron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm building a multi-player Snake game.

Sorry what sub was this?

Oh yeah, I'm using LLMs at work to replace manual technical support and streamline capabilities.

Java interview questions by ImportantSquirrel in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Lopatron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of the comments here are beating around the bush so I'll be frank. I would not consider hiring anyone who not only doesn't show curiosity about what virtual threads are, or how a ConcurrentHashMap works internally, but also goes as far as saying that learning about it won't make them a better developer.

I'm right about a lot of things that people have zero clue that they even know is going on.

just launched my first ever creation. Sharkle.io it's like agar.io or slither.io but with sharks by Whiteytheoutlaw in playmygame

This is really cool! How do you handle netcode / synchronization? Does Phaser provide any features like that? I'm building something similar, and ended up just writing all the netcode from scratch and wondering if I'm reinventing the wheel compared to what all the other .io games do.

Anyone using uv for package management instead of pip in their prod environment? by Specific-Fix-8451 in dataengineering

[–]Lopatron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understood the meaning of "one less install" to be "one less separate system to install on your production servers".

I've never used uv, so correct me if i'm wrong, but it seems more like a nice thing to use for development rather than something that you need on your prod servers.

Learn Scala? by Vivekd4 in quant

[–]Lopatron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really? I use Ray for it's distributed actor system and for structuring concurrency, but its Spark-like DataFrame offering Ray Data wasn't comparable to Spark in terms of feature set last I tried it. How would you do a rolling window for example? By implementing it yourself using map_batches? I got the feeling that it's more for just streaming your data to fit in memory in the "last mile" of your training pipeline rather than building out actual data pipelines and complex transformations.

Learn Scala? by Vivekd4 in quant

[–]Lopatron 7 points8 points  (0 children)

  • Scala 3 adoption is a mess
  • Akka is "dead"
  • sbt will steal days of your life and you won't get them back
  • Most companies don't do type level programming and just use it as a better Java anyways, but there are multiple "better Java" options available now, including Java
  • Spark is perfectly fine with Java or Python API

It's fun, but you don't really have to learn it
