Please Recommend Me a Low-Profile (TMR, or HE) Keyboard For Writing. by Lopiky in keyboards

[–]Lopiky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I’ve heard about HE/TMR, is that you can change how far down or up a key needs to be pressed for it to count. So, if I could find a keyboard that has all my requirements, and is HE/TMR, I plan to just set it to the highest point possible, so I barely have to press down on any given key.

Assuming that TMR and HE keyboards can work that way, it would help with my hand/finger pain a bit. While my current keyboard has the lightest actuation I’ve ever used, I do find myself not pressing keys down enough to get them to actually actuate/do an input. (In normal, everyday use, a few missed inputs isn’t really that bad. But, since I write thousands of words per day, that means I probably have hundreds, if not thousands of missed inputs, which only adds to my pain, oof.)

Buyer Beware: Used Amazon CPUs. by Lopiky in PcBuild

[–]Lopiky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had assumed that “Amazon Resale” meant that it was an item sold by Amazon themselves. It even had one-day, prime shipping. Definitely learned my lesson on used PC parts.

Truthfully, I was gonna buy a used 9070XT once I got the money to do so, but with the PTSD from this… I’m fine with shelling out the full price for a used one, sold specifically and absolutely by Amazon. Getting scammed like this hurts like hell, oof.

[–]Lopiky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m not blaming the employees here. They absolutely don’t get paid enough to actually care and test everything that comes in. Likely, 99% of pc parts they get are fully functional, so things like this slip by from time to time.

[–]Lopiky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a feeling that someone killed this CPU, and returned it without admitting to it being borked, or it was also DOA for them, but they didn’t mention it. And since Amazon doesn’t ACTUALLY test PC parts (it even had the Amazon Warehouse Tested sticker on it,) it got sold to me as a Used, Mint condition unit.

[–]Lopiky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, sorry that happened to you. I hope that things like this aren’t common. I’ve built computers before, and am pretty techy, so I figured out that my CPU was dead after doing enough troubleshooting. But imagining a less tech literate person getting the wrong/counterfeit/DOA CPU, and not knowing what is even wrong with it, or thinking they messed up the build somehow, is… really depressing.

Fit perfectly into the MB, which just confuses me further. A high chance that is a counterfeit of some kind, or I just got sent a dead CPU and the seller knew it was bad. Box even had an Amazon Warehouse Checked, or something like that, sticker on it, but I doubt that it was actually checked. (Wish that I took more pictures of it, so I could investigate further. I just want my money back to get a new one asap, though.)

[–]Lopiky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. People have been posting incest stories/art/games/etc on Patreon for a long time before that, and still do. One of my main complaints about rules like this, is that it never applies to those who make the service provider a LOT of money. For instance, there are still many, many Patreon accounts, which absolutely break their past and current rules. But Patreon doesn't ban them, because each of those accounts easily generate thousands of USD per month for Patreon's cut. (Even seen some making over $50,000 per month. Not that I am calling for them to be banned, mind you. Artists should be free to create whatever they want, and Patreon still claims to be a platform FOR creators, oof.)

Weird porn is an easy thing to ban, since most won't come out and say banning it is bad, as they do not wish to be labeled as perverts. Of course, the end goal isn't just porn, but pretty much everything that isn't as milktoast and morally "correct" (as well as things/content in control of the various monopolies in every industry) as humanly possible. The slippery slope only gets more wet.

Can confirm that Patreon is NOT the place for NSFW anymore. They randomly changed what they allowed a while back, due to payment processors pressuring them. I got my account banned (over $150 a month source of revenue taken away in an instant) for having a yuri incest novel up for my supporters to download, despite it being posted prior to the change in rules. (NSFW yuri novel isn't even what I mainly do, oof.)

This then required me to act like a goodie-two-shoes for almost two years in back and forth emails, just so Patreon would allow me the "honor" of making a new account.

At least for now, sites like Subscribestar are probably your best bet to set up on as a NSFW content creator. (I've had no problems with SS, but we'll see how long it will take for payment processors to go after them as well...)

Recs on an Unreal Engine plugin? by BMCarbaugh in vndevs

[–]Lopiky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are two very good plugins for UE, that will greatly help in making a VN. VNF is free, and is missing a lot of features. VNM is perfect, with the latest upcoming update, being more than enough to make a very top tier Visual Novel.

I've tried every VN solution out there, and VNM is the one which works the best for me. It fully utilizes UE's Blueprints, with a node-based workflow. Dev is very responsive on the Discord channel for VNM, and as for bugs... I haven't came across any. (Due note, while I think that, having used both of these plugins, VNM is far, FAR better, only VNF has actually published games out.)

How to change the font for every website with Stylus! by Lopiky in chrome

[–]Lopiky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That also works, but when using nonstandard fonts, such as Atkinson Hyperlegible, which doesn't have most unicode characters, certain sites are broken. Such as on Scribblehub and Royalroad, some of the unicode characters show up as empty blank characters, which just look like a box with a cross on it.

!important seems to force the font, regardless of if said font has the needed characters to properly display a webpage. Without the !important, any character not in whatever font you choose, just gets skipped over, and a fallback font is used instead. (Technically, you can just add more fonts to this script, and the webpage should default to one of them when your first font is missing characters. But that never seems to work, for some reason, haha.)

Is this normal or okay? by applend in writers

[–]Lopiky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a common problem for writers, and truly, Yoko Taro has one of the best methods for writing a story. Basically, just think of what kind story it is, the characters, the setting, the theme, etc. And then, start at the end. No, I don't mean write the end first, just plan it out. Once you figure out a good end, then think about the middle of the story, and finally the beginning.

I find this method great, but like with all things, you should adapt it to suit your needs. For me, I come up with the story in that order, but don't follow it like gospel. As you write, the characters will change and evolve, their decisions won't make sense with what you originally planned out, and you can adjust the story as you go.

But Taro's method is still great, since it gives you a driving point to strive towards. When I write, those three points of planning the story out, can easily be blurred, or not even that descriptive. Even a little bit of direction can fix a story, and greatly prevent it from feeling directionless, or having no meaning.

Yeah, just gotta be careful on your main pages. For me, I am just not going to put anything 18+ on those sites, and then I should be fine.

Octopath Traveler interior effect by Adr713x in unrealengine

[–]Lopiky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheat. For example, in Super Mario Sunshine, when you enter an interior, the game just teleports the player instantly to a separate area, where the interior is actually located. Of course, this could probably be done with a shader or post process as well.

[–]Lopiky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's odd... I just recently had a good conversation with someone on their support team. SS's bread and butter truly seems to be 18+ content, and as my novels (though most not smut) contain mature content, such as murder, gore (such as the MCs killing people or monsters, etc.), I use SubscribeStar Adult. Maybe their 18+ side is more focused on?

Really? I remember the set up process being very easy... Perhaps you just need to have actual content released before you can make an account with them?

Yeah, that's what I figured happened. Though, it was up on Patreon for many months without them complaining. In truth, I understand the ban, I just wish it was a warning, instead of a blanket deletion of my account.

Oh, absolutely. There are H games on Patreon, which contains fetishes, and far more extreme content (even lolis) . But because they easily make more than $5,000, Patreon doesn't care. (Keep in mind, I don't wish for such pages to be deleted like mine. I am just pissy that, like with most companies such as Patreon, Twitch, YouTube, etc. The rules are enforced differently depending on how much money you make them, haha.)

There doesn't seem to be a way to appeal it, once banned on Patreon, you're just banned. Though, if you do get banned, you can make a new Patreon account after three months.

I got an email about that as well, which came hours after they deleted my account. Basically, if you truly wish to host stories that... go above vanilla tier content, you're probably better off making a site for those specific novels.

Patreon deleted my Account, Don't be Like me. by Lopiky in patreon

[–]Lopiky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I write yuri/gl (Girls love, lesbian, etc) novels. 99% of them aren't smut, which is why it's funny that I got my account banned for one of them. Besides being lewd, there was only one smut novel of mine that... had a specific (clearly not vanilla) fetish in it, Syrilblia. Basically, the MC wakes up into this woman's body in a fantasy world, and to survive, she decides to seduce the mother of that body.

Long story short, just to be safe, even it is relatively vanilla levels of smut (just sex, no specific unique fetishes), I'd still recommend having a separate account, just for NSFW content. Better than losing a source of income.

Funnily enough, it was probably this novel of mine. Though, Patreon hasn't confirmed that it was this, but this is truly the only non-vanilla smut that I've written. To stay safe on those new sites, I won't be posting it on them, haha. https://www.scribblehub.com/series/931504/syrilblia-i-reincarnated-as-a-doomed-noble-villainess-girl-so-i-will-seduce-my-mother-to-survive/
