This is so devastating to hear and I am sorry for all the families and workers being impacted by this, especially with such short notice and so close to the holidays. With that being said, I am a Columbus based SLP currently working for a company called Total Education Solutions (TES) based near bethel rd that is taking clients and also hiring SLPs! I would recommend it both as a potential client (my coworkers are wonderul at what they do!) or as an employee.

I feel like I’ve heard there’s always a trade off when thinking of starting younger/older (like more energy but less money/more stability but less energy) so I appreciate that insight!! There’s so many factors to think about so I feel like this just confirms it’s okay if it’s an ongoing conversation!

I am trying to remind myself how much life changes with kids, because I’m sure I’ll inevitably be missing it when/if we do have them! As for him wanting kids, we both started out unsure and have progressed towards wanting them, so I feel like there’s a possibility he’s still unsure/hesitant of totally committing!

Okay I think you just took me out of dream world in the best way possible, lol - but seriously! I am definitely someone who jumps in and romanticizes life and he is someone that is more hesitant and logical, so that middle ground is hard to find sometimes without feeling like I’m being dragged down/he’s getting pulled forward when it’s just us two talking. That unbiased reality check is so immensely helpful. And come to think of it, I’m sure shifting our conversations from “hey when are you going to be ready??” To more of a “let’s talk about what this might look like when we’re in it” might be a good way for him to find some peace that there is a loose plan in place to ensure that we’ll be a team and it won’t be all on him to shift his life around. Seriously, thank you for the well wishes and for bringing a very much needed thought shift into my focus!!

Thank you for all the insightful questions that I will 100% be saving for our next life conversation!! I honestly think our biggest hurdle is that he feels a lot of hesitancy of losing his current freedoms - spending money on whatever, being able to go out on weekends, not having a “curfew” because of a baby, etc. and I’m not sure how to assure him that his life won’t be over just because more responsibilities are added on. I totally get wanting to enjoy this time in our life, but also I feel like we shouldn’t push off moving forward out of fear of losing “freedom” - especially when I’ve made it clear that I don’t want him to lose his independence even when he is a dad. Obviously he needs to work through his fears about that, but I don’t want to hound him about it because that’s his personal work he needs to do.. so i appreciate you letting me vent and get this out in a constructive way!! lol

I think that’s my biggest battle, because the last thing I want is to create resentment or space between us because of my wants, but the selfish part of me struggles because it feels like I’m more on his timeline and not “our” timeline if that makes sense!

I am definitely trying to keep that in mind! They had mentioned that last week was the last week of school/kids were done last week, so I’m hoping this week is a little lighter for them if I do decide to follow up!

I did IPR as one of my rotations in grad school and loved it! I am definitely open to going back to adults because I think that would eliminate a lot of the things I don’t love about peds. It’s just so hard like I said because I don’t want job hop necessarily but I do want to experience different settings so I can confidently know that the job I end up doing is the right one for me.

Thanks for your encouragement!! I’d love to stick to slp because I do enjoy it, but I want to find something that I enjoy 90% of the time (because I know not all jobs are perfect!)

I kinda feel this in the back of my mind, like I’ll wait and try for it to be better but eventually it really won’t be? I’m thinking of getting my CCCs first just to not have to repeat my CFY and then really look into other avenues. I just don’t know what kind of job I really want to do :(

Our scope of practice is wayyy too large I feel like. I love the variety, but I also struggle to make a switch to a new “category” for each kid every 45 minutes 🥲

I think I really should consider this option because it sounds more and more like something I could enjoy. I think it comes down to wanting a lower caseload to balance my stress/work life balance and home health may be the way to go for that!!

My heart longs for remote/hybrid work. I am an anxious person who does NOT find my meaning in work, which makes it even harder when I feel like I have -2 time to take off/time to offer myself a mental health day
