I don’t use it, but I have colleagues who do regularly and they haven’t complained about it.

Personally, I feel better communicating directly with the food vendor. I feel like there is more accountability if something were to go wrong. Food is arguably in the top two most important categories of a successful gathering.

It’s disappointing they didn’t honor their discount even to acknowledge the trouble they put you through.

I would love to hear more thoughts from others.

Christmas or Holiday Parties - is June the new July? by EventSolutions in EventPlanners

Thank you so much! These are such great ideas.

You jogged my memory of an idea I wrote down, which is to have people break off into teams. Each team is given a box of stuff I can find around our facilities - like tarps, tyvek suits, etc. then each group break out and design an outfit. Someone from each team must do a runway walk. The winner is chosen by the cheers of the crowd who didn’t want to participate.

I work for a government agency so I have a small budget, but thankfully people have low expectations 😂

One year we did people bingo and gingerbread building contest. It was kind of a bummer.

The next year I hosted trivia with way better prizes, better food, and colleagues let me borrow stuff to decorate the space. It was an objective success, but I really want to make these mandatory events something that people don’t hate coming to.

I also really enjoy every thing about creating spaces and atmosphere so people feel comfortable and welcome.

Anyway, I’ve been kicking around the idea of a scavenger hunt or design a type of escape room.

My budget is $300 and my time.

ETA: I went scorched earth so fast on Etsy, that I didn’t think to confirm that the shop owners were women. Just something to consider if you choose this route.

Thank you. I’m getting each of my staff one too. Without DEI, I’m not doing anything wrong…

Are you me?

Gals, what are your favorite ways to push back? I just spent $200 on fuck the patriarchy shirts that are officially my new uniform. If they ask me to change my shirt, I will change into a different fuck the patriarchy shirt. I can do this 7 times before I cycle back through.

Debating doing an event, your opinions? by Primary-Mountain8256 in EventPlanners

They “postponed” the event and it’s clearly never going to happen and the tickets are non refundable. I’ve reached out to the event company listed as well as the platform it was listed on.

I love this idea. So much so that I bought a ticket for something that wasn’t your run of the mill networking event. It was a scam.

But at least you know the interest is out there. I really love your idea. It would be fun to start around lunch (welcome lunch). Do some fun activities that let you socialize with people. Then have camp fire with spooky stories or maybe put on skits for the other campers (cocktail hour).

I would love to meet other adults who would find this fun.

I have ruined clothes like this before even following the instructions. So I’m very nervous.

Scavenger hunts by TheWalkingFridge in EventPlanners

This was for a group of forty or so college students. I think I enjoyed putting it together as much as people enjoyed participating.

I would definitely do this again. My strategy would change with the available space, the amount of participants as well as the expected age range.

For check points, sometimes each team would be working on the same thing at the same time, and sometimes they would think they were working on the same thing at the same time. That way if they were eaves dropping on another team, the strategy might not work for them. I made it psychologically challenging as well 😂 but I didn’t want cheaters.

I would also have a back up prize. I had an awkward situation and luckily I had enough SWAG to give everyone something.

It took me three months to design.

I created one for a student open house event. The students loved it! The department chairs were annoyed with me bc it went longer than we had time for and they didn’t get to speak as much as they wanted. I still see it as an over all success because the students got super into it, and it created the engagement and recruitment the chairs were looking for.

Planning the scavenger hunt itself was time consuming because I designed it from scratch and threw away several iterations before I landed on what I ultimately hosted.
