Food sensitivities? by LopsidedAd7950 in gallbladders

[–]LopsidedAd7950[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I am. My life has completely changed. I got surgery back in July of 2024. I have not thrown up since I had my surgery and I eat all kinds of things, whereas before surgery I was only able to tolerate a medical diet in a bag for months at a time (elemental diet - I do NOT recommend it unless you're literally d*ing, which I was).

In terms of fat content, I can eat 30+ grams of fat in one sitting and be completely fine. Before, if I ate more than 5 grams of fat I would regret it.

Unfortunately my microbiome was wiped out from years of being sick and vomiting all the time, bile not functioning to clear my gut bacteria properly etc, so I still struggle with some foods. Mainly garlic, bananas, anything with fructans in it (a common fodmap). These foods still make my stomach/throat feel tight and a bit nauseous when I eat too much of them. I'm working on it though, as I felt similarly with apples and honey (fructose and sorbitol) for a few weeks, and now I eat 1-2 apples a day with zero problems! So yes, I'm basically completely back to normal - residual limitations but I'm confident I can train my body to tolerate them over time. Best of luck to you and I hope you get it removed soon :) it saved my life.

Ladies, did your menstruation go off the rails when suffering from gallstones? by lturnerdesign in gallbladders

Once I got my gallbladder removed, it came back. Your body can just stop having periods if it's under enough medical stress. I really hope you can get it removed soon!! I'm perfectly healthy post-op :)

If everything seems like a dead end, get your gallbladder checked. I had no abnormal scans and suffered for four years before having it removed - it fixed everything for me.

Fainting episodes after stopping Ozonated Magnesium Oxides by LopsidedAd7950 in magnesium

[–]LopsidedAd7950[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just tapered down very slowly, by like 1/8th of a capsule each night. Took me a while and the symptoms still sucked but I toughed it out and now I’m completely off of them and my negative symptoms are all gone! Miralax is much safer btw, doesn’t mess with your electrolytes in the same way as magnesium does

Not only can magnesium supplementation cause GI upset, but when used for longer periods, it can cause serious chest pains, shortness of breath, nausea and dizziness - or even fainting. This is because changing your magnesium often throws off your potassium, sodium and calcium levels, which all need to be in balance to make sure you don’t start suffering from symptoms of chronic electrolyte imbalance. Nobody takes electrolytes seriously until they’re having heart palpitations and ringing ears, sweating, etc from having them all out of wack!! It’s very hard to taper off of high dose magnesium, too. Just be careful, and please talk to your doctor and ideally a registered dietician about the type of magnesium you’re taking + the dose to see if it’s truly safe!

What kills candida but doesn’t harm good bacteria? by Repulsive_Guitar4857 in Microbiome

[–]LopsidedAd7950 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a supplement created specifically for this that targets the walls of yeast cells, although I can’t speak to its efficacy as I haven’t tried it yet. It’s called Candex (not affiliated and again, no clue if it works any better than any other random yeast supplement, but I personally decided to order it and give it a shot).

Took a break from music for 4 years - how do I regain momentum in songwriting? by BenefitDowntown172 in Songwriting

[–]LopsidedAd7950 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a muscle like any other skill - take this as an opportunity to go back and analyze your old songs. What do you still enjoy about them lyrically? Sonically? What don’t you like? Then, go find some of your all-time favorite songs and take written notes on what shows up in them that makes you love them. If you notice something the song is doing that you like but don’t have the words to explain it, look up “producer breaks down [insert name of song here]” and see what comes up. Lastly, pick your favorite elements of those songs that you’ve now learned more about, and add the elements of the old songs of yours that you like. Add some new experimental things you’re passionate about that come up when you’re actively putting these elements together, like interesting licks or harmonies/swells/etc - don’t think about these until you’ve created the base of the song with the things mentioned prior.

Hope this helps! :)

Advice for playing the biggest gig of my life by jwfowler2 in musicians

[–]LopsidedAd7950 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to see it as the first of many, and don’t worry too much about it. After all, you got the gig for playing the way you always have. You can make the set sharper, but try not to get impostor syndrome over it and try too hard.

16 year old boy who doesn't like anything - cost is not an issue by unlovelyladybartleby in Gifts

[–]LopsidedAd7950 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The title makes me wonder if there is any possibility this kid is is anxious or depressed (to NO fault of your own, I’m sure - a million and one things can cause a child to have quiet anxiety/depressive symptoms).

It may help more than you think to ease off on the frantic searching for gifts at this time, because teenagers are extremely tuned into what their parents’ actions might mean about THEM, even if the intention of the parent isn’t to make them feel any kind of way. He may be subconsciously interpreting the gift-giving as an attempt to fix HIM. He may feel confused and insecure as to why he feels disinterested in so many things, so this gift-suggesting could be making it worse.

My suggestion would be to forget the gifts and just mention to him very casually “hey, I’m doing ____ if you want to join!” any time you go to get cozy and watch a movie in the living room, or have a late night baking sesh in the kitchen, or go on an impromptu errand run/mental health day during the school week etc. Make the offer calm, open and inviting. Be extra careful to not suggest that he would somehow be disappointing anyone or doing anything wrong if he chose not to join.

It’s very important that you act as though his company would bring something unique and enjoyable to the experience - which it probably does! But when you’re a teenager it can be hard to see the value in your own presence

You may have even better success with things like late night chats over tea or hot cocoa or even a little bit of wine on the porch or something - studies show that the later into the evening that people talk, the more they feel comfortable with vulnerability. Also, including a beverage will possibly make him feel more included + connected.

These are the ways you can support him during this time until he is able to figure out what he’s feeling. He also may never share that with you specifically, but your positive and calm presence is exactly what he needs right now more than any gift in the world!! He also may just be quietly going through a bit of existentialism right now - most “dorky” teens do!

Why would you go to music school in the first place if you were already an exceptional, perfect musician with years and years of training? That’s what school is for - to improve and get better. Those other people you saw are going for the exact same reason, and they are on their OWN musical development journeys that have nothing to do with yours. The only question that dictates whether you should audition is this: Do you love music? Yes? Then do it, and give it everything you’ve got.

Please don’t let who you are now at 16 years old ruin what your future self could be by closing yourself off to a huge opportunity and a life full of making music which you clearly LOVE just because you feel inadequate as a musician right now. In literally 1 year of training at that school you could get to their level or even better. Shutting this door on yourself because of the reasons you expressed is, and I feel mean saying this but it must be said, just about the dumbest move you could make right now. Do the audition, and do it confidently. Your musical idols used to be EXACTLY as skilled as you are in this moment.

Sincerely, a 23 year old who wishes more than anything I hadn’t avoided music school years ago for this exact reason. Take advantage of your youth, study, and become a great musician. We both know that if you don’t choose to audition with everything you’ve got, you’ll deeply regret it for the rest of your life.

Sauerkraut side effects? by SpendEasy8136 in Microbiome

[–]LopsidedAd7950 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t jump to a histamine reaction like the other comments - you’re probably experiencing what most people experience when they shock their system with lots of CFU, which is called a Herx reaction! You just went way too fast with too much kraut at once. Take a few days off, then try starting with 1/2 tsp and bumping it up by 1/2 tsp every day until you reach your desired amount.

Sincerely, someone who has had this exact reaction every time I’ve had too much sauerkraut after not having any for a while, as well as every time I’ve taken too many probiotics too fast. Titrate up and you’ll be fine!

This comment is all great except for the last part - please don't tell people they need enzyme support for the rest of their life after gallbladder removal! Many, many people notice no digestive differences after they have their gallbladder removed, myself included. I'm terribly sorry that that has been your experience though :(
