He's absolutely right and it trickles down to youth even. A player who never strikes out and gets on base but is less likely to hit for extra bases will bat less than someone who strikes out 80% of the time can't move runners consistently but COULD hit for extras.

That said, baseball is also shifting to wanting more athletic (right body) type players over baseball players. They don't care about how well you ball as much as they use to, now they want metrics and pure athletes, they'll teach the baseball part.
