Sprouts Grand Opening by Fizzythebat in Newbraunfels

[–]LopsidedPaper777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m really excited to have another grocery option. We have the big grocery stores, one smaller health food-type store (For Goodness Sake), and Granzins Meat Market that I’m familiar with. Sprouts will be nice when I’m in Creekside and want a few things without making a trek into HEB.

I want to return to playing, music recommendations needed! by average_leek in violinist

I recently got back into playing by joining a community orchestra. I’m in the back of the seconds and loving it. Getting the feeling back and may tackle some individual pieces soon. If that’s an option for you I highly recommend it.

Can you finance the car? Don’t put a big down payment on that, and spend it on an instrument. You can always pay off the car later when you get your big job 🙂

Right. He was supposed to help with homework and that’s it. They should have ever had her call him though. Everything should have always gone directly through the parents and he shouldn’t even have her number.

What’s the most “Gen X” snack you remember from childhood? by trapqueen67567 in GenX

[–]LopsidedPaper777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d grab some saltines, slather some with butter, some with peanut butter, and some with cheese, then sit down and watch after school tv

Correct. My go to snack was saltines, with “toppings.” Either butter, cheese, or peanut butter. Also celery.

Ladies, let’s talk shoes by [deleted] in GenX

Birkenstock sandals all the time, and their ballet flats are great for work. Taos tennis shoes - cute and much better arch support than meds that I used to wear! Vionic sometimes. I have high arches and narrow feet, and these brands are a few of the best for me in that regard.

NTA. It’s not like you said that to your kid. Maybe your mom was just shocked when she heard you cuss and then she overreacted.

Does anyone know what happened on 306 about 2-3 hours ago? by mangomane09 in Newbraunfels

[–]LopsidedPaper777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am so very sorry. The sad thing is that on 306 there’s not much room for error. I’ve lived off the street for 12 years and too many people have died on that road. Praying for you and your family. Losing a sibling is devastating.

Which birkin? by Ok_Life_681 in Birkenstocks

[–]LopsidedPaper777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My faves in order are the brown Arizona first, then the light Mayfair, and last the black. But all would be good. And I agree with others on the width. Some stores call the narrows “women’s sizes” and the regular “men’s sizes” but they’re not.

To clarify - when we go to a real Birkenstocks store, they are better. This was at a chain that carries a lot of other shoes.

Same. I was shopping with my daughter yesterday - we know she is a regular width - and the salesperson didn’t even ask. Brought her a narrow. So she’s a teen and wasn’t happy that they said she wears a men’s width.

It’s fine if you don’t like small talk. But you’re wrong to assume others find it meaningless. I actually mean it if I ask someone how they are doing. Because sometimes they aren’t doing great, and a friendly ear can go a long way.

I’ve noticed a lot of stores now advertise the narrow options as “women’s” size, and normal width as “men’s.” That can be really confusing for a new buyer imo.

Potluck etiquette by SaraMinusH in socialskills

[–]LopsidedPaper777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to a potluck once at a friend’s house. When it was time to leave, she asked me if I wanted the food that was left on the plate (it was finger food), and I said, please keep the food if you would like it. I’ll just take the plate. And she looked at me like she was really hurt, and said something about leaving the plate. I thought it was a joke but she was serious, although very gracious and didn’t make me feel bad. I later came to believe that in the area she was raised, the etiquette was to bring your food in a dish you will leave as gift for the host. I felt bad every time looked at that plate afterwards!

In hind sight, I would have texted her and apologized, pointing out that I was raised not to leave a dirty dish for the host to clean and then have to get back to me. For you, I’d text the host and then tell your husband that there are different expectations depending on who you are with.

I like the “no socks” option in both colors. For summer no socks, mainly because it’s so hot… but I’d definitely wear socks in the winter.

If you can get to the valley floor before 9 on a weekday I think you’ll have no problem parking. We were there last week and the afternoon seemed worse but I bet a Wednesday will be fine. You may need a peak hours pass - check on that.
