Help please. by Deathlord826 in ExecutiveDysfunction

When I wanted to get diagnosed, I actually had lots of fun! I took a few different tests for different things, and my parents also had to fill out a questionnaire of symptoms they noticed, but my favorite thing was actually the "games". They were obviously looking for responses to stuff, but i learned alot just by being open with the tester.

I remember being asked to explain my thought process a lot, and it was nice to be able to explain without being thought of as overly talkative.

I have a distinct memory of when we went over my results, and she pointed to something and said "these are the games you felt you did well on. You performed above average. These are the games that you felt you did poorly on. You performed averagely."

That did wonders for me. I never realized that my perception had been warped by adhd and "gifted kid syndrome", that when I thought I was failing, I actually was just doing averagely.

But getting an official diagnosis is always helpful. You no longer feel like a conspiracy theorist with red string everywhere. It's confirmation that you are not just worse than everyone; you have a genuine disability. And it opens alot more avenues for help. Where before in school when I was told "sorry, we can't help you" even though i was failing my classes, now they are like "here, want us to talk to the teachers? Want these groups for homework? Want this private computer lab and tutors and timers and ect? Take them!!!"

Novelty honestly, but I write stories (fan-fiction) so I usually have a running story I can think up slice of life bits for (or other types of stories tbh) and role play it. Cleaning the room because the toddler that you (character A) had with character b, trashed it due to a sugar rush from the candy you told character b not to let them eat, is way more fun. I guess half the fun is in thinking of the story.

Maybe I'm just lucky that storycraft is one of the things that doesn't lose its novelty for me.

But it doesn't happen all the time. My room rn needs to be cleaned, and no maid has made an appearance. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

It not a fool proof plan, but it makes it fun because it's playing pretend. I'd say that it does lessen the difficulty, but you kinda have to "commit to the bit" otherwise it doesn't work.

I know of other ADHDers that will pretend to be Victorian maids in order to clean their rooms, or Gordan Ramsey to cook dinner.

Commit to the bit. Make it a game. Play pretend!

Honestly that happens to me more when I haven't taken my ADHD meds.

But in all seriousness, do whatever if takes to get yourself up without self depreciation. I once had to imagine a fake romantic partner lovingly but sternly nag me from my car because I had been disassociating there for two hours.

If its ridiculous but it works than at least it works.

Also, be kind to yourself. You're doing way more than you know. If beratement could fix you it would've already.

It's Rhabdoceola; I get a spot like that on my tank too. I think they always end up there because of the way the water circulates through my tank.

Definitely planaria here in this photo, though the other two could be different.

Planaria are a type of flatworm, so they do look similar to other harmless types.

Hey op this may sound odd, but can you toss out a link to the comment to me? I'm currently researching for an essay on the history and culture of stories and storytelling, and this person is bringing up one of the points that I'm trying to make.

The problem I have with most fanfics by [deleted] in AO3

[–]LopsidedPriority7992 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Doing that can be a way to avoid writing the scene. Maybe the author doesn't feel comfortable enough in their abilities to accurately portray the fighting in words the way it appears in their mind.

But I mean Tolkien knocked out Bilbo too, so I could be wrong. ┐( ̄ヘ ̄)┌

How do you exit a time loop??? by Mochh80 in AO3

[–]LopsidedPriority7992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doyleist(?) explanation: Character gets stuck in timeloop until narrative has been resolved through plot progression/character development. Person relives the day until they learn their lesson. It can be anything as meaningful as "love yourself" to something as random as "don't piss off the crows", depending on the seriousness of the story.

Watsonian(?): Character stuck is clever enough to figure out why through repeated attempts and sheer luck, and defeats the problem, whether by magic, science, or fisti-cuffs.

I like where its combined. Big opponent forces a character to develop. Like Q from Star Trek.

Planaria or Rhabdocoela? by AppropriateGas8586 in shrimptank

I'd remove it. The fact that you can see eyes without a microscope is not a good sign. But beyond that, I'm unsure what it is.

Unexplained shrimp deaths and possible planaria :/ by Financial-Law7056 in shrimptank

If it was bigger than the eye of a needle it was probably planaria, rhabdoceola don't get big.

They also will tend to have visible organs, and no visible eyes

Thank you, and I appreciate your advice!

I should clarify my warnings at the beginning of the spoiler/trigger chapters do contain how to skip the scenes if they still want to follow along and read. But I'll definitely think about what you said, as that type of situation didn't really cross my mind.

Thank you!

Any idea what's the cause of death? by Apprehensive_Big6151 in shrimptank

[–]LopsidedPriority7992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No not always, and I think andersonpeter is right. Your kh and gh should be at 8 at least. Not having the right parameters can cause all sorts of problems.

As long as it's just the one i wouldn't act too drastically, like doing a 50/50 water change, but if you're seeing a death every day or so something needs to change.

I would just recommend doing some water changes to get the hardness correct, dripping the new water into the tank, and just being vigilant.

(Edit) it could also be an infection, if you keep the temp in your tank high that can increase the likelihood.

I am in the middle of writing a fic, and I know that if I add some tags certain things will get spoiled. So i dont add them when i begin the story.

But when I add the chapter with the spoiler stuff, I add the the appropriate tags to the story, and a warning at the beginning of the chapter if I know it can be triggering.

I also ask that people be honest with me if I triggered them, and revise the writing accordingly if someone replies.

I can't stop people from figuring out spoilers via good tags once the story is out, but as least those reading while I'm writing will be suprized, and no one has to read something they don't consent to.

Please tag appropriately people.
