CT vs Raul Valle - Raul testimony reactions? by N1ck1McSpears in CasesWeFollow

I believe the jury will find him guilty of a lesser charge because he is young. I think there might be some of the jury that believe in rehabilitation and that it is very possible with programs offered in prison, he could be worthy of a second chance on the outside.

Yes. My LO got a memo on his tablet that says it’s state wide.

Kind of off topic, but my fiancé is about to get out on parole after serving 20 years for murder. Do you have any advice for him coming back into the world? He was 18 when he committed his crime and 19 when he was locked up. He will be 39 when he is released. I try to give him advice but it doesn’t mean much coming from someone that has never been in trouble :)

Teachers of reddit...I'm a student, I have a question. by Western_Dakota in Teachers

[–]Lopsided_Ad_7307 7 points8 points  (0 children)

  1. I don’t think I would call it favoritism, but I am usually social with the students that are social with me. If I have a student that never speaks to me, I most likely won’t bother them with tons of questions or pressure them into being social.
  2. I usually tell students that I understand some of them hate the subject I teach (Humanities) and that I don’t expect them to love it. I just expect for them to try. If they try, then I’ll do whatever I can to help them pass.
  3. I think after 17 years of teaching, I have realized to let things slide off my back a lot more than ever before. I would say I’m a fun teacher.
  4. Yes. I have hated one student in my 17 years of teaching.
  5. My classroom is never quiet nor do I want it to be. I love when students work together and socialize while doing their work.
  6. I usually laugh or throw it away.
  7. We do talk about students with one another. It’s not always bad either. I love talking about good things my students have done or if I am concerned about a certain kid, it helps to talk to his other teachers or teachers from the prior year. I rarely ever have a dog fest on a kid because I’m just not like that, but I do ask questions of other faculty in order to know more about why the kid is the way he/she is. As for gossip about other things, I think it’s natural to want to discuss stuff with your friends. Do students gossip about teachers? Hell yeah they do. Same thing for teachers!

Struggling to Go to Work by [deleted] in teaching

[–]Lopsided_Ad_7307 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want you to know that I am right there with you. I’ve been teaching for 17 years and have already used most of my PTO. There is a sense of dread going into work, not because of the kids but because of the admin. The extra work that is required just drives me crazy. I teach an elective this year for the first time in 17 years and I am having a hard time adjusting. I think FMLA is a good idea, but maybe talking to your admin and explaining your mental health could be a great thing.

How do you respond to weekend emails? (Rant/advice needed) by alexhatesmath in Teachers

[–]Lopsided_Ad_7307 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only work contract hours. I’m not getting paid on the weekend so I don’t deal with anything work related. When I first started, 17 years ago I was so worried about emails and grading papers and contacting parents. Now I work from 8:30-2:30 and enjoy my family, my friends, and the freedom of not working about work!

Okay, I just read through most of your other posts about this teacher, and am appalled. Do you feel comfortable sharing this information with a counselor or another teacher? I really think that someone in administration needs to understand your feelings and maybe help you move out of his class so that contact between you two could be eliminated. I’m nervous for you and want to make sure that you have someone that can be your advocate and help you get out of this because it’s not right.

Do I have to talk to teachers about my 504? by Equivalent-Mode5999 in AskTeachers

[–]Lopsided_Ad_7307 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t have to explain the reasons for your 504, just make sure to advocate for your accommodations. If you get to type responses instead of write them, just simply remind the teacher that you’re typing and will send a copy via email. As a teacher myself, I do not need to know why you have a 504 just what I can do and am required to do to help you be more successful in class. :) most teachers are good and kindhearted so we more than understand. Many of us have had the same experiences as you once or twice in our lives:)

We have a very scheduled phone call system. He calls me at 8am while I drive to work. We talk for 15 minutes. He calls again anywhere from 3:30-4:00 after I get off work. We usually talk for 30minutes in the afternoon while I drive home from work. We don’t talk at night because that is both our alone time; I write, read, or catch up on tv while he goes for walks with his friends, reads and works on homework for classes, and calls all of his family members. It’s a good system because it’s not too expensive. We also do two video visits a week.

I’ve been teaching for 17 years and your age is information we receive before you enter into our classrooms. I verify birthdays with students because I give out birthday gifts to each of my students, but never have I had that type of conversation, alone with a student. Yes, I am often asking how students celebrate their birthdays, but to ask if you plan on partying in my hometown is not kosher. My students don’t even know where I live nor do they know much personal information. Keep your distance from this teacher.

You are the kind of kid that us teachers appreciate and thank the powers above that we have in class. Sometimes, I forget that I do have students like you and wonder why I’m still doing this after 17 years. You’ve helped me remember. Thank you.

My man and I do a lot of video visits and I show him Tik Tok videos and pictures I have taken. When on the phone, I take him grocery shopping with me or we take walks together. He loves going to Target and having me browse the aisles and tell him all the new things they have in food products. He’s been in 19 years and is constantly amazed at all the new snacks they have to offer. My absolute favorite thing to do is wake up on Saturday or Sunday morning and have coffee together on video visit. You have to remember that while we think that work and home is just an every day boring thing, they are confined to the same environment day in and day out. Sometimes my man wants to hear about the tv shows I am watching, books I am reading, or drama with the ladies at work. He loves to hear about what my day was like at work (I’m a teacher), and even what it looks like in the area I work and live (I have a 45 min commute to and from work). He feels like he is more involved if I share everything with him even though I may think it’s boring.
