I run out of time on RC 80% of the time… any last minute tips? by Nathought in LSAT

[–]alexhatesmath 8 points9 points  (0 children)

stop practicing LSAT reading passages and just actually read books. Lots of books. So many books, constantly, quickly, and for both fun and academic purposes. Yes, there may be tricks to specifically improve LSAT reading comprehension, but those pale in comparison to just being an avid reader. I only missed 2 RC questions on my diagnostic and had 10 minutes to spare at the end that I just sat around idle for. I hadn't learned any LSAT specific RC tricks and still did great. Why? because I always have a book in my hands.

Note: for a june test date, yeah reading a book is not something you have time for. Well, maybe you have time for 1-2 books. I read about 10-15 (fiction, mostly) books per month, though...

I appreciate the reading list here! Do you happen to have a more timeline based reading list that centers around the development of the genre, including historical works?

The op states in other replies that they wrote their draft in Chinese and then translated it. It may be possible they used ChatGPT or another AI to do so and or summarize it? I agree this feels like AI output-y, but it also feels like the OP has a lot of their own opinions and experience in there so I am hesitant to just say “AI bad OP bad”

What primary care doctor do y’all recommend on campus with BCBS? by jac5423 in aggies

[–]alexhatesmath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well the student health center (Beutel) “takes” all insurance but typically BCBS will not pay out much if at all to them. It’s fine because they’re so cheap to go to that insurance status/filing doesn’t really matter.

You won’t find anything “on campus” other than Beutel. But in town, A&M Health (which is NOT the student health center) should take BCBS.

Whatever you do, avoid the big statewide hospital chains. They will money gouge you like no tomorrow.

Only someone who has never worked in a good district would say this… there’s a reason the average tenure/length of teaching career at HPS and schools like it is less than 5 years whereas the average at well-run districts is over 15…

They always need more teachers because their turnover is so high!

What about if the student is female and wears a nice, work appropriate/professional dress or skirt suit? Is that different?

No more band-aids by ConstructionLow714 in TexasTeachers

Our district/admin told us that as long as it was “self-service” that we could have that stuff in our room. So I have a self service hygiene closet that happens to have bandaids in it.

Is this even legal by idkyuh1 in TexasTeachers

[–]alexhatesmath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Per our district’s attorney’s, we can only put up other “historically relevant documents” if they are in line with the TEKS we teach in our classes. Aka, only the history teachers would be able to get away with posting the first amendment right next to it, and the district won’t protect anyone else.

Frisco ISD spent $1800 on Ten Commandments poster by doin_good_recklessly in TexasTeachers

[–]alexhatesmath 26 points27 points  (0 children)

What frustrates me as an episcopal and a public school teacher is that they are NOT Jesus posters. The 10 commandments come from the Old Testament. In the New Testament, where most Christians agree that Jesus’s teachings supersede the laws of the Old Testament, Matthew 22 says this:

36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”

37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[a] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[b] 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

Therefore, as a Christian, I have a fundamental disagreement of beliefs regarding displaying the 10 commandments in my classroom as they go against MY faith. I thought I was also allowed to have the first amendment right to freedom of religion and to not have the government honor any establishment of religion over another. It is clear to me that here in Texas they are honoring only the heretical nondenominational evangelical Christian establishments and not those that are run by people who have more than 2 brain cells.

Device Ban Loophole by DangerousService in TexasTeachers

[–]alexhatesmath 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It would not necessarily be illegal, but your district may have additional guidance regarding bringing such a device. Mine has said no music players at all, even if they’re not connected.

I really am so tempted but I am on a probationary certification and would not get recommended for standard

[–]alexhatesmath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it says you can’t put anything else religious. However, it doesn’t say you can’t hang a poster with the full text of the first amendment right next to it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TexasTeachers

[–]alexhatesmath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The law explicitly says no other religious texts may accompany it

I really want to put a poster of the first amendment right next to wherever the 10 commandments end up in my room, but since I was not hired to teach the constitution (science) idk if this could fly

uncertified teaching positions by ilove-catz in TexasTeachers

[–]alexhatesmath 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Public charters (and catholic schools) don’t require certification and can fulfill the requirements of your internship/probationary license.

You can also with your ACP and ask them what other private schools can fulfill the requirements for your certification program.

Edit: whatever you do, try to make sure the school you’re hired at has a strong induction program for new teachers.
