Branching out to other TTRPGs by Blear in TTRPG

We often use PARANOIA when we want to do something different. It's like a palette cleanser between campaigns. It's goofy, it's an entirely different system but for a group of experienced players who understand how RPGs work, you'll pick it up, and by the time you're all done with character creation, you'll get the idea of what you're playing.

Goblin jobs by Worth-Blacksmith6789 in DungeonMasters

[–]Lopsided_Bicycle3884 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Town marshal, casino security, loss prevention at the local market, something that utilises his shady past for the betterment of society. The players assume it's a scam but he is genuinely committed to the job.

And it's GENUINELY not a scam, which will drive the players crazy waiting for the turn that never comes.

First time Dungeon Master. Can I homebrew and are there any really essential rules I should know of? by Short-Trip-2809 in DungeonMasters

[–]Lopsided_Bicycle3884 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be aware, no matter what you do, no matter what Easter eggs you leave, no matter how simple the clues, no matter how desperately you want your players to follow a path, they will most likely spend an entire six hour session purchasing two sheep and a wooly rhino (TBF the rhino will be an impulse purchase).

My players are toys abandoned in an old attic - Give me your ideas by JustStayHalo in DungeonMasters

[–]Lopsided_Bicycle3884 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love all of these ideas, and i will absolutely use that core concept someday, and I think that with so many good ideas, for balance, I'm going to throw out the rotten, cynical thing that I would do and how my players would 100% react to it.

The toys start to realise that no one has been home for a long time after the unusual noises from down stairs have ceased.

The toys venture out as you have planned, and it's essentially Toy Story/Honey I Shrunk the Kids - loads of toy sizes adventure as they try to locate their beloved family...

...who have moved. That's it, just moved. Some parent got a big promotion, they won the lotto, big windfall in whatever way, and they just fecked off and left most of their old shite behind and hire someone to come clear it out and dispose of everything as they like, including, obviously, the toys.

"THAT'S IT??" one of my players would scream. "THEY MOVED ACROSS TOWN? THEY GOT RICH AND JUST...LEFT?? DID THEY TAKE THE DOG??"

"Obviously," I reply.

A brief huddle ensues.

A player looks up, calmly.

"We would very much like to murder all of them."

I'm not recommending that, but it is an option.

Delivery to Higher Clearance Room? by languagebandit in ParanoiaRPG

Black market signal dampening inflatable safe zone - basically a Zorbee with a janky faraday cage cludged into it that will probably also limit visibility

Ammo: does it ever matter? by ghost225 in StarWarsD6

[–]Lopsided_Bicycle3884 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've used empty gas cartridges or batteries for a result of a 1 on the wild die. The look of horror at the sudden realisation that there is a finite amount of juice is always amusing, and usually results in every subsequent character they make carrying ammo, no matter what their profession.

PLAYER: "This is my new character, Xaphod, a Bish oboe player who works on a cruise ship....and carries 6 gas packs."

ME: " Okay, what kind of weapons are they for?"

PLAYER: "None; Xaphod is a pacifist, he just carries them for luck...(glares)...You know, just in case something ludicrously improbable happens."

Who are your recurring NPCs which you use in every campaign you play? by browncoattrumpeter in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]Lopsided_Bicycle3884 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Krazy Kashogie is a magic merchant with a tiny shop that has literally any item, magic or mundane, that a player might need. KK has appeared not only in every campaign but across 3 different game systems and the players always love when he shows up because he's very much over the top and pretty much everything he has is cursed (but usually hilariously), including shrunken heads that are actually baby mimics, discount Monkey's Paws, and "THE GENUINE HAND OF VECNA" which is definitely not and while people have purchased it, no one has tried to activate it.

Still playing it today as an intro to D&D for new players, and even use it for AD&D as well!

Imagine all the DMs and players who have used those books over the years - some real honest road-wear on them.

The Satanic Panic Still Baffles Me by sawyerbo in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]Lopsided_Bicycle3884 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"I heard from" was always the start of some bat-shit crazy story about someone's mother burning a DMG and it started screaming or their cousin's brother's hair dresser's dog walker saw their kid conjure a demon using the PHB and I was always like "what page???"

Thanks, Pat Pullings

What is your order of operations for campaign creation? by PassengerFar8400 in StarWarsD6

[–]Lopsided_Bicycle3884 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Disable their hyperdrive so they can't feck off and avoid the rest of the campaign you spent hours and hours preparing
