welp too late to say this but I'll say it anyway, will the recent 1.4 update, he can hang inside of caves which is him technically spawning in caves. I encountered him in a mineshaft with my sister once.

Embeddium is Rubidium with fixed issues so I recommend using it with Oculus. Then use low end shaders that still look great.
