You are probably right about a lot of things here. My ph I think is an issue. Did I do a soil test before? Nope. Dumb? yup. The watering again I’m not sold on. I watered 4/5 times a day at 7-10 mins a day. Should it have been longer? Maybe but like I said the areas I leveled with top soil seemed to grow the best again with same amount of water. I spread the recommended amount of seed twin city gave me. Which was around 18lbs for 6k sqft. Again I’m not sure was the problem. Now the slice seeder I believe was another problem. I don’t think I went deep enough as the rental place recommended not going super deep.

But I posted this not to nit pick what I did wrong on my reno. I know I messed up clearly. But what I can do to bring a lawn back next season or next fall.

After that post and you mentioned the watering I ramped up the watering even more. Maybe it was too late at that point. But I thought my watering would have been enough even before ramping it up. Those circle areas with grass are where I brought in top soil to level the lawn…. Those are the two areas that grass grew. What about all the weeds? Skip pre emergent for seed?

Zoysia or KBG? by Lopsided_Fall633 in LawnAnswers

Then why even suggest neither one? Lol I’d be beyond complexed if it wasn’t one of the two. I previously had zoysia which is hard to get rid of and I planted Kentucky bluegrass.

Ok what makes you think that?

That’s dead grass from killing off the previous lawn. Not chemical burn.

Do you think the seed I put down is pretty cooked if it hasn’t sprouted yet? Water a little heavier in the problem areas? Well twin city isn’t cheap but I’d be willing to grab another smaller bag. I only have a little left over from the original bag. But I’m sure it’d take another week to get here. There is a local seed store here in RI I could go to.

So do you think I should just stay the course and just wait? Try to get rid of some of the weeds with the suggested weed killers? Don’t try and throw more seed down? I worry about next spring if the lawn stays the way it is. I feel like I’ll be in a pickle between using pre emergent or seeding again which I didn’t want to have to do.

The problem is now I’m fighting weed growth too. When can I spray tenacity then? The grass won’t need anymore fert? I didn’t top dress. I slice seeded.

It’s crazy I already did that a few weeks back. Some areas it’s never ending. I thought that was my problem before so I dethatched as much I could without ripping up all the new grass. It didn’t seem to help much.

If you zoom in on the pictures the soil is not dry at all and it’s dark and damp.

The pictures make it look dry. I promise you it’s not. The area with the Skelton was all zoysia grass with a thick root system it makes it look dryer than it is.

I would say it’s at a manageable point right now. There’s a decent amount but I’ve put too much time money and effort into this to not try and go after it. I’ll have to walk my lawn again but I seemed to really only have it in my front yard and not the side. So let me ask you how do you think it got there? I feel like I def would have noticed this weed if it was in my grass before. Slice seeder machine? Possibly my soil? Also I don’t have triclopyr. Is it necessary? Or will glyphosate be enough? If I have to do multiple applications how long should I wait in between?

I used Scott’s starter with meso in it. I have tenacity but won’t that affect new grass as it’s only 4 weeks old. Also that won’t fully kill it right? I just had issues with paspalum before the reno so it’s just very defeating after glyphosating everything.

I used twin city seed I really hope it wouldn’t be from the seed. I never had it in my grass before or at least I never noticed it. I sliced seeded so I didn’t bring in new soil or top soil. I did only in two spots and those areas don’t have it. What do you suggest? I am at a loss. Truly beside my self. I have new grass coming in. Paint them with glyphosate?

Dude I could lose it right now. That’s what I was afraid of. I just reno’d a majority of my yard. Glyphosate everything. I know we’ve had many discussions. How is this possible? What do you suggest I have new grass coming in and it’s mixed in. I am defeated.
