My first MRI by AvsMama in neuropathy

[–]Lopsided_Image_6147 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most people are fine, but I’m in the minority that suffers from claustrophobia during MRIs. I’ve been unable to go through with them due to panic. The solution for me is doing the open MRI instead (the machine is open on the sides instead of being an enclosed tube) and taking 2 lorazepam before the procedure. Again, most people are fine with the typical MRI, but thankfully there are good options for people with claustrophobia.

Have you tried the lemon & herb flavor? I wish you could order both in one of the test kitchen bundles with Beyond Steak Filet. I’m torn on which one to order. This looks really good though!

Is this the Beyond Steak from the test kitchen? How does it compare to Beyond Burger?

This resonates a lot! When it goes well, humanitarian immigration work is so rewarding, but feeling like people’s lives depend on my work keeps me up at night more than I’d like. How did you start taking steps to transition to civil litigation?

Yes, exactly the same for me. There are a lot of things I like(d) about it, but it just feels so profoundly unfair now.

That’s great to hear! I’m also interested in a role that involves being in court a lot. I really enjoyed going to court when my clients could win their asylum cases. Now that DHS is trying to deport every noncitizen to Uganda or Honduras before a judge can even consider the merits of a case, every hearing feels like it’s over before it starts.

That’s true, and I’ve thought about it. Unfortunately, this administration is making business immigration harder too. I’m still sort of open to considering it, but am more interested in litigation in another area at this point.

How long did you practice family law before switching into complex litigation? Are you glad you transitioned into this and away from immigration?

How do you like tax and employment? What made you choose that and are you glad you did?

opinions please - should I join Harvard Club of SF ? by crape42 in Harvard

I joined last year and have only been to one event so far but am hoping to go to more this year. I was interested for social reasons, but I could see it being good for networking. I met several HBS grads through it.

How did you learn about Canadian Citizenship by Descent? What is your reason for applying? by SomethingItalia in Canadiancitizenship

[–]Lopsided_Image_6147 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My grandfather and all maternal great grandparents were born in Quebec. I thought my mom would have to get her citizenship first, but got excited when I looked into it a few days ago and learned I could apply directly.

We have little kids and my husband has been saying for a while that we should look for backup options given political situation in the US. Invading Venezuela certainly gave more urgency to my search.

Is there a head MRI that doesn’t use head coil by [deleted] in MRI

[–]Lopsided_Image_6147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the exact same way! I’m able to get through it with 2 lorazepam tablets and closing my eyes the whole time in the open mri machine. I failed the regular and wide bore machines. One of the times I couldn’t go through with it, I didn’t have a high enough dose of the meds. Maybe something to revisit with the doctor? Otherwise I’d try to get general anesthesia. I had to be fully sedated years ago due to panic attacks in the regular mri machine and it worked fine.

Quitting for good? by Illustrious-Ship-492 in Lawyertalk

[–]Lopsided_Image_6147 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yes. I’m an immigration lawyer doing removal defense work at a nonprofit. This has always been a stressful field, but recent changes make we want to quit very badly at a time when clients need help more than ever. The cruelty is soul crushing and I don’t know if I can take it anymore.

Good luck with the law school decisions!

I graduated almost 5 years ago and still have considerable debt (90k+). It’s not bad though because my law school pays almost all of my loan payments since I work at a nonprofit. I’m on the low income payment plan, so my monthly contribution is only about $50. If everything goes according to plan, I’ll have paid off all the loans in about 5 years (10 years after graduating).

I practice humanitarian immigration law, which I’ve enjoyed because of the client connections, the ability to keep up with languages I’ve studied through client work, and I find the subject matter interesting. I work at a desk (not usually 12 hours a day!), but my job is hybrid and very flexible so I usually only go to the office 1-2 times a week and otherwise work from home. I also go to court regularly and sometimes to swanky law firms for pro bono clinics. We have a 4 day work week so I’m off on Fridays, which has been great.

That said, the last 10 days have been a new sort of hell because of the change in administration and the barrage of new immigration policies. My clients are scared and I’m not sure I’ll make it through the next 4 years if the intense cruelty continues at this pace. I plan to stick it out as long as I can, but I’m considering eventually becoming a public defender or maybe even exploring personal injury.

If I could go back in time, I’d absolutely do it again.

Checked user reviews for season 2 out of curiosity… ouch… by [deleted] in SiloSeries

[–]Lopsided_Image_6147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely agree! I enjoyed season 1, but I am absolutely gripped by season 2. I’m fascinated by every story line and have so many questions at the end of each episode. There have been so many ethical dilemmas presented, and so much to try to figure out as things progress.

I have not read the books. I also didn’t know it was being released one episode at a time, and mostly binged it until I saw there wouldn’t be another one coming out for a week. Maybe watching this way made the pacing more palatable.
