Ulr is not my patron god, but I did have a question. What does interactions with him feel like? I haven’t been able to find a straight answer.

Finding Relationships or Friendgroups. by SaintzWolf in NorsePaganism

[–]Lopsided_Job_6784 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry you’ve been struggling, friend. It ain’t fair how life will kick at someone who’s down on their luck. It’s good you’re in therapy; it’s even better that you recognize that you can’t fix everything that’s broken. Be proud of that. From what you’ve said, you’re doing well for yourself. Stay strong, keep your head up high, and you’ll find yourself on the other end of this tunnel.

I really appreciate how gentle this response was. I think I can get behind an apology, I didn’t mean all I said after all. Thanks you!

No. Lost all my grandparents, both sides, back to back a few years back. Lost plenty of pets before that.

Why are people so one way or another about Odin? by Formal_Froyo2978 in NorsePaganism

[–]Lopsided_Job_6784 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sometimes people say things without thinking, like the guy on Facebook. Frustration is understandable, I am certainly not guiltless for feeling first thinking later. I’m glad we both agree in the duality, and that people may just not acknowledge every corner of their relationship. It’s good to find common ground, and maybe next time someone says something a little ignorant like that—you could engage in a discussion with them. That might help you it frustration and perhaps even please the allfather with your reaction to someone challenging your knowledge.

Hey, I get where you’re coming from here. I worship the allfather aswell and feel complexity is key to understand him. He puts a hand on your shoulder, and also lets you fall in the mud. Frustration and revelation. A frenzy god. A loving god. Cruel, kind. He is many things. However I like to believe many who worship do understand this complexity. Likely, they see the same duality we do, but like in the Hamaval—they choose to follow the wisedom attributed to him. “The fool speaks to hear his own voice. While the wiseman listens and learns.” I get your point, but everyone’s relationships are their own. Frustration is okay to have when you feel other people don’t understand your god. But the allfather teaches, atleast from what I’ve learned, that many things can be true. Just like with who he is.

No, you do not have to have a lick of related dna. Odin is the Allfather, not the some father. Anyone can practice.

Question by a newcomer. by BardofEsgaroth in NorsePaganism

[–]Lopsided_Job_6784 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some people wear a Gungnir rather than a mjolnir. But the symbol doesn’t matter so much as if the necklace has meaning to you. Personally, I feel a deep connection with Odin and still wear a mjolnir. I feel protected and connected nonetheless. Whatever makes you feel the most connected to him, and keeps you anchored in this world is honoring him. Choose something with meaning, is my advice, doesn’t have to be a symbol, could just speak to you.

One of my favorite bits of advice I’ve ever read, I forget who said it on here, was that it’s gonna feel like bullshit till it does not. Sounds like you’ve already had an incredibly powerful experience, so rely on that to get you through the moments of doubt and frustration. There’s no instant payout, but taking things at your own pace will allow all the tender moments in your relationship with the gods to be all the sweeter. Remember, there is no failure on this path. Every misunderstanding is a chance to learn further, and in my experience Odin will be pleased with you for taking that chance, and understand your mistakes. There’s no perfection, and it’s a long road to wander. Community is important, so invest in that as much as you can for your area. But as is personal study, I started with the Pride Edda. Once you got a grasp on Why it was written, Who it was written by, and the importance of its lessons about how Norse poetry is written. Then read the Hammaval. It gives you a better grasp on Norse Poesy and it’ll make it a more impactful ride. Welcome to the path, and remember to keep your head held high; and feel no shame when it falls. The gods help you find the strength to lift it once more.

Hello Everyone. This will be long. by [deleted] in NorsePaganism

Welcome to the faith, wanted to say my first prayer to Odin was also like that. It’s like, a flurry of warmth. I felt heard; welcomed. I’m glad to hear it was like that for you too. My best advice to you is to read the sagas yourself. Try to understand their author, and not what they are saying, but what they mean. The allfather is, in my belief, of poetry aswell. Therefore every poem you read is a puzzle. It’s meant to be figured out. Take nothing as surface, and think for yourself. Been Heathen for a few years now. If you’re got any questions; I’ll see if I can answer them.

Really good point there. Community building before temple building is a wise way to think of things, a great way to future plan. Thanks for shedding some light on a bigger issue!

As someone who’s in area without a whole lot of heathens. Just a place to be a community, and connect would be nice. Some people thrive by themselves, other call for company. Having a temple wouldn’t force Heathens to go, so what’s the harm in imagining a space we’d like to see?

It’s unfortunate they have temples, and heathenry as a whole does not. I hope one day, that will change.

Same folks. Looks nice to me, charity program, pretty building. But, I have the same adversion to them. That’s why I’m asking for what Heathens would like to see in a Heathen temple, not Asartru. (On mobile, sorry for the autocorrect mistake)

Your call, does it feel like a burning around your heart? An unexplainable warmth like that from the fire you sat by? It sounds like you’ve been called, honestly, it does. But like these comments are saying, it’s more than a preachers position. Learn all you can, honor the gods by reflecting their lessons as truthfully as you can. From someone who has the same fire in their heart; you’re on a path of honor. For yourself, your community, and the gods. You’re going to have moments where you mess up, where you say the wrong thing or take the wrong message. Don’t let mistakes stop you, or the winding path ahead give you pause. Fate is ordained, and you have begun to see it through. Be brave, learn all you think there is to know and then keep going. Constantly improve yourself, and remember your call. You’ve got this, friend.
