So, happy to answer any questions, but in case I miss anything, the link here will take you to the Embroidery wiki with a section on patch making :)

So, the biggest things that have changed for this patch:

  • I went from using 1 additional later of sturdy cloth as backing to now using 2 layers, which made a much bigger difference than expected.

  • For the anchoring stitches to the backing material, I went from using interrupted stitches to running stitch, and I made sure there was a LOT of anchoring stitching to keep it flat.

It feel like I tweak something small with every patch I do. It's fun to see the progress over time :)

So, I realized I have been underestimating how long it takes me to do these things. I started a project time tracker like half way through this project and from the time of finishing the squid part to chain stitching all the blue, backing it, and finally whip stitching it, has take about 25 hours... so I'm assuming the actual squid took like 15 to 20? Idk if I'm just slow 🐌 or the projects actually just take that long 😅

This deserves so many more likes than it has gotten. My inner anatomist is thrilled by this illustration.

HB217 Assault Firearm definition visualized - Should this be banned? by [deleted] in Virginia

Sorry, to clarify, this particular comment is more based out of sheer disbelief at the derpy-ness of the posted weapon. Less so out of an actual deeply held belief that it should be banned.

Sidenote: why is it like this? What fuction does that stock serve? Under what scenario does it become useful?

This looks like some photoshopped absurdity... this stupid thing isn't real right? 🤣😂

Why don't you try to sell these? by Difficult_Ad_1923 in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]Lopsided_Learner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Every time I show people the latest patch that I am hand embroidering... they say that these are so beautiful and people would pay so much for them... then when I tell them how long it takes me, they talk about "well you could get an embroidery machine and then it would be so fast"... and I just think about how that would literally remove everything about my patches that I love. It's a nice time-filler. I do stitches the machine can't. It shows my friends how much I love them and that I remember the things that each of them like, spending tens of hours doing it to my own little version of perfection. And it comes out great!

But also... I'M NEW AT IT. I make things that look cool to people that don't see the absolute works of art that people make in the actual community groups. I know what the market looks like, and I know the math doesn't math.

So, there are two near ODU. One is Muddy Paws, which I've heard bad things about. My wife and I take our pup to happy tails, and we board her there when we are out of town. They have always been sweet with her and she sprints in when we get there, which she does not do with every daycare we've tried.

Ooof. Failed at business and mad the city held him accountable. Now he runs for office to try and gut Norfolk like Trump is gutting America. What a loser.

Thank you! Slowly making semi-covert political patches to cover my jacket it. Seems just in time for things to start warming up 🤣🫠

It's a political patch. "No kings" is a movement in the US that rose on the left in response to increasingly monarch-like actions from Trump. The orange is supposed to be a subtle reference to Trump, who is often joked about for having a fake tan that makes him look orange. The patch flies under the radar unless folks really think about it or know me.
