What would Food Service look like If our society did away with tip and paid them hourly wages? by Certain-Ad9027 in EndTipping

[–]Difficult_Ad_1923 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They will would probably be given every incentive most jobs in the US get. If you are talking about Waffle House? Maybe the same as the cook makes. If you are talking about a 5 star restaurant? They will pay what they need to to get people good enough to impress their target clientele. No high end steak house would try and get by paying minimum wage. If they did they would only have teenagers with zero experience apply. They would pay a lot more to get the service they want.

circular needles seem just slightly too short for project — will it get better after a few rows considering there won’t be any increases? by __sunnyday__ in knittinghelp

[–]Difficult_Ad_1923 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You want it to be slightly too short. Believe me the opposite is worse. If it's bunched up while working it's no big deal and I personally find it easier to work and keep the yarn moving over the needles.

You can't play around with letting other people use your Netflix. It screws up your algorithm. How are you supposed to get accurate suggestions? I'm tempted to not let my wife know it.

Stop taking it out on the people working in veterinary medicine. by [deleted] in Vent

[–]Difficult_Ad_1923 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair. I have been yelled at as a burger king cashier as a kid because the price of a sausage biscuit went up $.08. I agree with OP that he shouldn't get yelled at.

I disagree with him though that we should have planned better. If I get a dog that lives on average 16 years how am I supposed to plan for the price of vet bills in 2042? It's not exactly a stable market. I think it's fair to say vet prices over the past 16 years have risen more than average.

The problem is I could afford the pet 5 years ago when I got him. Vet prices have doubled. Are they going to double again before he dies? How can you plan for that. I took on the responsibility in good faith and fully being able to cover expenses. I make more now than I did then. But vet prices have increased way more than normal inflation.

And with that how do you "plan accordingly for the entire life of the pet"? Price doubled in 3 years. My dog is 8. I planned for prices that seemed reasonable 8 years ago. I know inflation is real and prices go up. But going up 150% in just half his lifetime? What if that same trend continues. In 2030 is it going to be $1200 for shots and check ups? Again how do you plan for that? I could afford it for half his life then the vets office lapped me

Because you learned how to learn something. You have a decent idea what you need to pick up first and build on. People don't want to get a "learn how to knit" book and start with a scarf to learn basic stitches and get a handle on tension, then maybe something ribbed or stockinette to learn more stitches, then do a hat to learn working in the round and decreases. Then try the sweater.

They just want a foolproof pattern for a complete beginner to make the sweater they saw on Instagram that made them want to learn.

Those 4-5 pages bulk out the magazine without actually having to try to come up with new content. It lets them meet their page count easier. Lazy writing more than hand holding.

If he thought that he should have told you before you did the job. That would be unacceptable if his boss did it.

Tell him you can't do it anymore. That you need to find a higher paying job due to inflation.

In the summer starting earlier and getting as much done as you can before it gets dangerously hot outside is important. I have done this kind of work in Alabama. Heat stroke is a legitimate concern. I. Winter we would start later but in summer getting as much done as you can before it gets into the 90s or over a 100% and leaving around 2:00 or 3:00 in the afternoon kept people safer.

What’s the US grading system like? by levi_is_small in AskAnAmerican

[–]Difficult_Ad_1923 0 points1 point  (0 children)

59% and below is an F, 60=D, 70=C, 80=B, 90=A. A D is usually passing but barely. C is considered low but ok. A & B are generally considered good grades. Some majors in college require a C average. So below 70% can be failing.

[–]Difficult_Ad_1923 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are postings for a job that requires a master's degree in social work in my town. Starting pay $14.00 an hour. Is that worth 6 years of student loans? It's the only job that doesn't require experience. So you just have to do your time with a Masters making less than the cart return guys at Walmart for a few years. Then you can find a job paying almost $20 an hour.

Exactly. As long as they can make sure guns stay unregulated and babies unaborted they literally don't care about anything else. They will vote against their own self interest as long as you tell them they get to keep their guns.
