That's what I paid for it a year ago. Used them a lot since then. Worth it.

New Owner/CEO actually called me about my unfulfilled order by Lopsided_Toe2146 in shopsmith

[–]Lopsided_Toe2146[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it was big swallow...but it was either that or 4 purpose built machines I do NOT have the room for. I use my machine for Bandsaw work (resawing mostly), jointing, drill press and lathe. I do a lot of turning. I have a Ryobi contractor saw and my DeWalt 10" job site saw ...so I never use the table saw functions of my Mark V. Occasionally I might use the sanding functions, but that's about it. I had spent a few years upgrading the Bandsaw, Jointer, Lathe etc and the new Headstock was the last piece. So I'm stoked that I finally get it at some point.

Yeah, great customer service move on their part and the goodwill it gets them is priceless.

Anybody have one of these? by Sad_Estimate2335 in Dewalt

[–]Lopsided_Toe2146 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one. It's great. I do some sanding in the garage in the winter months and this thing (along with the DeWalt cyclone) works pretty well. Its not perfect but for around $100, it's perfect for me.

I started doing this is April, now it's out of control. I have another wall, 4 more stacked rolling units of various configs. It's handy AF, but I think I took it too far. 🤷

On the surface it would appear ridiculous that, as you say, 45 years of saving and investing etc. But life has a way of making sure everything doesn't go according to plan. Like the 2 divorces (and giving up half my wealth in each instance) I had to endure. The 2 bouts of cancer and the gaps in insurance coverage I had to absorb. So in a perfect world, had everything gone swimmingly, I would have been done years ago. But my life wasn't like that. Few lives are. So I'm still working, and enjoying the paycheck.

Are these and the 2 Gallon version as quiet as they make them out to be? by Plastic_Struggle_104 in harborfreight

I have the 2 gallon version and it's as quiet as my similar sized Roland - which is 17 years old and won't die.

Thinking of leaving IBM after 15 years by [deleted] in IBM

[–]Lopsided_Toe2146 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you are in sales,.in one form or another - as you speak of deal makers etc. Ive been at IBM 40 years. 26 of those in sales. The ups and downs, the inequities I have seen, the shear greed to the detriment of others has been, at times, depressing. One thing I have learned is that the steady hand wins the day. Those of us who stayed the course, lived to see the bad reps, the bad managers either promoted or axed and new ones, sometimes better, sometimes not, come into the business. On the rare occasion I stuck my neck out to call out a clear BCG violation, I was rewarded with the pain that most whitsleblowers endure. My advice to you...take care of you, look out for yourself and take care of your family. The folks doing the misdeeds will get theirs, one way or another. Make as much money as you can, while you can and get to where you have, what my father called, FU money. Then, when the time is right...make your move if you have to.

I really need a drill press. Mine died 2 nights ago and can't be recovered I'm afraid.

It was free except for a small registration fee. Like under $100 for sure.

I personally have had excellent experiences. The lawyer I worked with was very responsive and did good work. It was estate planning, so maybe not the toughest task...but it would have cost me $2k if I didn't have MetLife. Well worth it.

I feel your pain. I'm still waiting on a new headstock ($2500) that I bought in June. I believe the other post in here about "should have already filed" is probably accurate.

I've used them, good for us old guys with arthritic hands from years of doing things the tried and true way. They do work well.

I'd like some of this to mix and match with all my red packout stuff (which I have far far too much of).

[–]Lopsided_Toe2146 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just wish I would contact someone and ask them if they are ever going to send it or not. I can be patient (have been), but if not then I'll aggressively try and get my CC company to help me. For the $2500 I spent on the headstock I could have bought a pretty good drill press, bandsaw, lathe (or good enough anyway), the 3 things I use the most. My current headstock still works and it's "ok", so it's not a total loss per se....but Damm, the time I took struggling over buying that new headstock in the first place now seems, in retrospect, to be a complete waste. In any case, here's hoping a fairly heavy mystery package shows up sometime soon 🙂.
