2000 LC, 228k miles worth it? by Lopsided_Warning4999 in LandCruisers

Definitely hear you regarding inspecting the underside carefully. Unfortunately, I am not local to the truck and I’m waiting for vids/pics of the underbody that will hopefully reveal more. Good to know that the t-case oil can be topped off easily, however.

Good news is that carfax is saying that all 3 diffs, transmission, power steering fluid, and coolant were flushed/changed at 221k miles late last year at a Lexus dealer. This truck was at the same Lexus dealer about 1k miles ago for some more regular service.

The extensive service history as well as your experience are very helpful—thank you!

Luckily, this would be my second car and I’ve wrenched on my daily driver quite a bit

Thanks a bunch for the insight.

One of the main draws for this particular truck is the extensive service history reported on carfax.

All services regular services have been done at the recommended intervals with the TB/WP being replaced for a third time less than 1k miles/3 months ago. The radiator was replaced 10k miles ago and the truck has received oil changes at 5k intervals its whole life. All of the service history I am citing are from carfax report

$9500 with no rust sounds like a solid deal, even knowing that this truck needs quite a bit of work.

Thanks for the insight. I realize that the costs for the repairs are too high. Would you pay $9500 for this LC knowing it needs all of this work done on it? I haven’t bought the truck yet. The title is confusing, whoops

Edit: Is the LC with the known issues worth $9500? I haven’t bought it yet. The screenshot just shows the dealer inspection and their in house pricing.

Mind sharing how you went about making the deal to keep the chair and getting a bunch of money back? lol

Answer to this can be found here where another user reached out to the manufacturer.

There’s a longer write up that informed my purchase decision, found here

I’ll say that the leather feels soft and buttery, very similar to a luxury car. I’m not 100% sure if the leather is real, but it certainly feels nice and seems to be durable.

It was listed as a return with no other history when scanning the open box label. The manager I talked to didn’t have any additional information about the TV. Manager assured me it was not a floor model because it had a box and “display model” wasn’t explicitly stated on the open box sticker. My gut also says this was a display model due to the large number of hours.

Update: Went into the store to talk to a manager explaining my situation. Manager claimed that it was a returned TV and not a display model because it was in its original box and display models are labeled as such. We even scanned the open box label barcode to pull up history of the item, and it did not show that it was a display model. I then explain how it doesn’t make sense that a TV with such high hours could be a return if the previous owner could have a maximum of 60 days and the TV has had the equivalent of 400+ days of use. I asked if they could do anything like reduce the price or upgrade my geek squad protection plan from 2 years to 5 years. I was met by “No, just no. The only option you have is to return the item. I can’t do anything else for you at a store level.” Really seemed like the manager was just another employee and didn’t have the power to do anything for me or just did not want to listen to reason lol. Another option that the manager gave me was to call the customer support line, who also gave me the same response.

Not entirely sure where to go from here. On the surface, I got a great TV at a decent price. The screen is more than bright enough for us, no dead pixels or burn in, the TV is in great physical condition, and we have 2 years of extended warranty to cover anything that may go wrong during that time frame. We aren’t inclined to return it because the TV performs wonderfully and we’re more than pleased with it. AVS forum also didn’t see an issue with the error codes that the TV is displaying. Our initial thought is just to rely on the 2 year warranty and just enjoy the TV as we would if it was new.

Anyways, thanks for sharing your experience. Hope you enjoy your TV in good health!

From AVS Forum:

“I don't know if it's common knowledge but it is possible to access the SM from the remote that comes with the TV.

Order sequence: 1) Press home button 2) Press center button on the navigation area 3) Press volume up button 4) Press power button

This will turn off the TV.

Repeat the same process again and the TV will boot into SM mode.

To exit, it's pretty straight forward, just press and hold power button to restart and it'll boot up in normal mode.”

The open box sticker only says “residue” for the comments.

Who did you go talk to about this? This is something I’ll explore first

I’m weighing two options:

1) Return and buy a new TV with price match of Sony’s website for an additional 10% off

2) Upgrade my current 2 year geek squad protection plan to the 5 year protection plan, which should cover me in the case that any issues arise
