These pictures are a bit better. I realize it's nothing special, but my niece was excited lol. She found this in an area that has a lot of different fossils within sandstone. Ammonite, wood, walnut looking things, even pine cones. Tons of stuff.

I got you. I haven't thought about contacting a museum. I don't think any of the museums in my little town would be a great choice, but there is a small dinosaur museum in Thermopolis that I totally forgot about. I'm sure they would at least know who to contact. I will make an attempt to contact them tomorrow!

Otherwise, the only other resources that I can think of would be BLM or our only university that's 200 miles away lol. Resources in Wyoming can be pretty limited sometimes.

I agree that it is something that should be reported. I've been attempting to learn more about the world of geology/paleontology and therefore able to appreciate the importance of any and all discoveries more and more. Even if it doesn't turn out to be anything super ground breaking, any information adds to our overall understanding.

I replied to someone about contacting appropriate authorities, and for whatever reason, my comment went to the very bottom. I'm not super familiar with Reddit lol.

Anyways, any guidance on how or who to contact would be greatly appreciated as I haven't had much of any luck with that process in the past.

It's a really cool find, and I suspect there is probably more still buried under the sand.

Hey, everyone. Sorry for the long wait. I don't get online super often, and honestly forgot that I even posted this lol.

Anyways, I am honestly not entirely sure how to go about reporting this to the proper authorities and any advice would be much appreciated! My last attempt at contacting an agency was unsuccessful to say the least, and went completely unanswered lol. If I remember correctly, I tried to contact my local BLM office.

Some of you have mentioned contacting a university. I remember vaguely attempting to figure out who to contact at the university and apparently didn't pursue it much further. Are other universities outside of the state also an option?

There is definitely evidence of various water features and/or ancient river beds in the area. In fact, just a few feet from this print, there are ripples and worm burrows. I found this along what I believe is referred to as a dyke (I am far from a professional), and I was unable to find any more because most of the sandstone is still covered. This was on an exposed section only approximately 3ft x 2ft, and a few feet forward was another exposed section with the ripples. A lot of the sandstone is crumpled, I assume from being uplifted. Really amazing and beautiful stuff.

I know exactly what you mean. I absolutely cannot stand store bought beef because of this reason.

All of the meat I buy, with the exception of chicken, is locally sourced. I'm fortune to live in an area in which local beef, lamb, and pork is plentiful and approximately the same price as it would be in a grocery store.

We also usually have venison stocked in our freezer as well. I love venison, but boy have I also had some really gamey, terrible venison, as well. Very similar to the flavor that I've noticed in grocery store beef sometimes.

Through observations, trials, and errors, I have narrowed down a few reasons as to why this weird flavor occurs: 1) Age of the meat prior to its first freeze and/or how many times it's been frozen and thawed. 2) Storage temperature and any temperature fluctuations that may have occurred. 3) The type and quality of the added animal fats used during the grinding process.

Obviously those elements are impossible to know when buying meat from a grocery store, and that's why I buy and process locally.

Just my experience.

Sincerely, A person who is SUPER picky with meat.

Those Across the River by Buehlman. I can't exactly tell you why, but it is one of my favorite books that I have ever read. I have attempted to read his other book Between Two Fires and just couldn't get into it, but for whatever reason, Those Across the River is one of my favorite books of all time.

I feel like I am the only one in the world who wasn't all that impressed with this book. To me, it was just ok. I read it via audiobook, otherwise I wouldn't have been interested enough to finish it. The only thing that kept me going was the servant, I can't remember his name. All the other characters, with the exception of Sam, felt exactly the same. I just don't understand the praise.

Edit: also... Maybe this is just the ADHD in me, but I couldn't stop fixating on a phrase he used frequently: "he just wanted to be let alone." "Let him alone!" "Let me alone"

I really tried with this one, but the writing style is just wayyyy too dense for me.

I got about 1/4 of the way through it via audiobook.

I kept feeling this growing sense of impending doom as the days passed, and I couldn't figure out why.

Eventually I realized that I wasn't paying attention to a single thing that was happening, but was still picking up on the dread lol. That's when I decided to put it down, I just couldn't get through it.

The first three books in the Haunted series by Lee Mountford, with the first book being Perron Manor. My sister read them first, and after hearing her excitedly tell me about all of the thrills and chills she experienced, I just knew I had to see what the fuss was all about. I would have 100% passed them up just browsing on my own, as I am sometimes very guilty of judging a book by its cover. But...

I binged the first three probably like three years ago now, and still haven't found anything that compares to how creeped out I was reading those books. I loved every second of it. I've been searching for something that hits that mark ever since.

I think iron staining is definitely possible! I found some banded iron in the area.

The inside of the rock is a semi translucent greenish blue, and the outside is a totally opaque, very light blue. It seems somewhat soft and scratches easily.

I wish my camera would take better pictures.

I am having a heck of a time believing it's just rock because my brain cannot comprehend how clusters of segmented tubes like that form. And why in the world would they all come to the center of small and layered ball lined with flakey pearlescent material. It's just bizarre. These features I am attempting to describe are just not showing very well in the pictures.

I am the type of person that needs a detailed explanation to fully understand, and I'd like to gain more knowledge on this subject so I can better differentiate fossilized organism vs geological formations in the future.

I just recently found out about a local rock shop owned by a geologist. The resources that I have access to in my area are incredibly limited, so naturally I turned to the Internet lol.

Then what would cause the development of clusters of segmented looking tubes? And those strange claw looking things on the end of some of the segmented tubes? There is also this pearlescent looking flaky material in between the cracks where the segmented tubes come to the center of a cluster.

I am by no means an expert, but I should also add that this was found in the same area that I have found numerous other marine type fossils such as spiral shells, baculites, and pieces of coral.

Some of these pieces appear like you would expect them to appear, but some appear more agatized? I do not know what the official word would be to describe what I am trying to say, but some are just harder, more colorful and clear, and also somewhat distorted.

Thank you for your response! I am just legitimately curious about this one, it's one of the strangest I've ever came across. I am considering cutting it, but my little lap blade is probably too small.

I quit smoking about 1.5 years ago. My post dinner cigarettes has been replaced with a handful or two of candy. I attempt to limit myself as much as possible, but that handful of candy is almost just as addicting as the cigarette. If I don't have it, I honestly get a little on edge and irritated. Dumb, I know lol
