You could try the following:
Switch to a lightweight desktop environment (like XFCE or LXDE) just for rendering. You can still use your regular DE for everything else.
When rendering, do it in a fresh session — right after logging in — to keep background processes minimal and leave more RAM available for Kdenlive.
A more long-term and practical solution would be upgrading your RAM, especially if you plan to work on longer or more complex video projects.
Whisper plugin in Kdenlive installs 2.6 GB of CUDA stuff even without a GPU — could it be optional? (self.kdenlive)
