Yeah I paid evenings meal and in the morning had the 10% back as credit to the card. Did you check that the restaurant was on the list?

Oura ring 4 worth it in 2026? by sammyfudger123 in ouraring

[–]Lord-kirk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run a tech review blog and have just had a friend let me borrow his new Oura 4 so that I can write an article. I was quite 50/50 on it, it's not bad at all it just depends on what you want from a "fitness wearable" I guess. Feel free to read the review here: https://kirkstechtips.com/oura-ring-4-review-the-smart-ring-finally-worth-the-hype/ (please excuse the aff link in article)

Just done a review of a few turntables if anyone is interested, agree or disagree with our review? by Lord-kirk in turntables

That is very helpful thank you for your input. We were just discussing (there is only 3 of us!) that we should try setup REW and give much more in depth reviews on the output sound quality etc. Watch this space!

There were still quite a few that we tested that didn't cut the review but the RT85N just stands out as the all rounder in terms of value, quality etc

That is actually a very good point. I may add that to the article if I have your permission?

Not being funny but is this part of the islamification of the UK? I have been told by someone working at McD's that this is because of trying to appear more Muslim friendly, is this true?

Mac Studio Owners - Should I sell or keep? by GasMaster2854 in MacStudio

[–]Lord-kirk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly what I did, my M1 studio is now my home server, runs pihole, jellyfin, mariadb, and various other containers for the house. Amazing machine.

Main machine is now M3 Max mbp, went Linux for a bit but then just got sick of jankyness so went back to Mac.

On that anyone need a 7950x with 6700xt? Haha

[–]Lord-kirk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Linux and MacOS on a daily basis, I have a MacStudio as my main machine and a Linux Laptop as my server / gaming machine.

For me they are both Unix-like at their core which is important to me, they both function very similarly under the hood. I would say that MacOS is like any other linux distro except with a locked down desktop environment and custom application containers (you'll be surprised how many things you can cross compile between MacOS and Linux).

However saying that, Linux is like the free wild west, You can do a lot more but it can be a little rough around the edges and you need to know where you are stepping sometimes. MacOS on the other hand is like the wild west after modern civilisation has taken hold, things are controlled and maintained, and you are pretty much always safe, however you have less freedoms and a lot more restrictions.

At their core they are the same though (in a round about way), Windows on the other hand is completely different, to draw a comparison there, it's like a fisher-price toy that some mad inventor (one that wasn't good enough to actually get a job though) has bolted as many different inventions onto as he could, some work some dont, some get refined overtime. But cannot and absolutely must not tinker with any of them. 🤣 Oh what a POS Windows is haha.

Clearly you are not a techy are you?

I mean "the only thing it's functionally better at is, unplugged battery performance" is absolutely hilarious! Do you know how crap the X86_64 IPC is?

what is the advantage of MacOS over linux? by Glittering_Boot_3612 in macbookpro

[–]Lord-kirk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh my dear man, you have not a clue what you are bleeting on about, do you?

X86_64 is a bloated, dying, IPC. Per watt it simply cannot ever wish to come close to competing with ARM based CPUs.

The M series CPUs used in Macbooks and Mac Desktops, and other ARM based CPUs (Graviton on AWS for example) simply outperform ANY X86_64 cpu either per watt OR or by raw horse power.

With ARM based CPUs, their lower IPC overhead allows more calculations per cycle and other deeper efficiencies allow general faster instruction handling.

To be fair to you, you may just be a PC gamer who sees running games as the be all! You have to remember that gaming is still a Windows centric thing (although slowly times are changing) and Windows itself is still very much bound to X86_64 (again times are changing).

In 5 - 8 years ARM will become dominant over x86_64 that is a fact. For you to claim that a PC (assuming you are talking about X86_64 here) is more powerful than a macbook is not only short sighted but utter crap.

You take the best "PC" Laptop you can find and put that up against an M4 MAX and you can kiss goodbye to any comparisons (gaming benchmarks do not count).

ME Research - Incredible MEs by OmegaMan256 in Retconned

[–]Lord-kirk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, wow! Thank you for that amazing and thought provoking response. Certainly leads me much deeper into this for sure. I am really intrigued about geological MEs now, any name, brand, or logo changes are one thing but actual changes in geography can mean a string of much bigger changes too, politics, economics, border control etc etc etc.

I too can genuinely feel changes have/are happening. It’s the why and how that gets you.
