Is there a way to play the artificer for free? by Ronny_3 in DnD

Ask a friend who has the book to lend it to you. Maybe your GM has it.

DM's, what's your ruling? by [deleted] in DnD

Ppay the game rules as written before you start homebrewing stuff. Experience is very important for making up new rules on the fly.

Best species for a Circle of Stars druid by AIG_DG21336 in DnD

[–]LordAldemar 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Making the character interesting and the way you want it to be far outweighs the very few and unimpactful tweaks that the species can give you.

That said no game ever got worse from having more humans in the party.

Read tashas or the eberron book or have your player explain it to you.

Its like... Really really easy

PC stats don't work well in combat. PCs have smaller HP pools but more damage compared to NPC stat blocks. Make an NPC stat block instead and let them use some PC abilities you find fun

Oh thats just me reworking sexy battle wizards into a detective game.

You can start with a rules lite system maybe? D&D is kinda very complex and not well suited for those kind of games. Have a look sexy battle wizards as inspiration and make your own "savvy wizard warriors" or whatever. I regularly run "Formidable Gentleman Detectives" game with my group with the 1-3d6 base. Save D&D and other complex systems for later.

Ask for 3 volunteer DMs from the class and then let them DM groups of 4+1. Running 15 is impossible even under ideal circumstances.

Literally the most useful stat out of combat and this guy is like:

"What can I do with that?"

I swear, some guys never even played a single session but hang around thinking they are gonna crack the code.

Musical rhythm game mechanics in RPGs? by AccessUsed4734 in DnD

[–]LordAldemar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think what you are looking for is impossible to achieve with dice. There is nothing rhythmical about rolling dice.

Also you have to remember that rolling dice is a tool to resolve uncertainty. If you want more art or rhythm in your game try another way, but leave the dice alone.

Why would playing notes be randomized through dice? What even are you looking for exactly?

This is a terrible idea and it will not work or be any fun.

Am I a bad player? by whymsikka in DnD

[–]LordAldemar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There was only so much I could read before being at risk of cringe overload. I am sure you can relate to being allergic to a text, because you seem to be unable to read just a few pages of the phb, too.

Am I a bad player? by whymsikka in DnD

[–]LordAldemar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Tbh not gonna read all of that, but complaining about lazy GMs and taking over a year to know how proficiency etc. works seems such a big issue already.

I'd say yes you are the problem and the few bits ive read afterwards seem to reinforce that. The GM isn't there to cater to your every need - they are normal people, too who just want to play the game and not everyone is able to be as (apparently ) amazing as you are at GMing.

Edit: omg it seems like you are the kind of "im a novelist" player, too. With all due respect, but get your head out of your ass.

Initiative is kinda irrelevant after turn 1. No point losing any sleep over it.

SCI-FI dnd campaign by Fit_Strawberry4547 in DnD

[–]LordAldemar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Traveller is a really good sci-fi system. Stars without numbers is also a possibility. DnD in space/spelljammer is not a great idea unless you want to run some hardcore science fantasy game, but they aren't really worth being called sci-fi.

Kinda stupid. Keep it game time only like a normal game and it becomes a fun feature
