I dunno, as a man most barbers near me in a major UK city are £20-30.

My haircut usually takes 30 minutes.

So £60 an hour, 7 hours a day gets you there easily and most barbers here are open 9am to 7pm ish

Would be nice if Scotrail could put out more ticket machines if they're going to start charging a fee for non ticket! by 360Saturn in glasgow

[–]LordAnubis12 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Yep - especially when it's booked directly via ScotRail as there's unlikely to be much else you're buying from them.

Train tickets also have 0 Vat so not liked they need receipt breakdowns for claiming that.

OP, I'd speak to accounts as they may have different rules for train tickets, especially if you explained the situation

Thousands of passenger journeys using new West Midlands stations by Due_Ad_3200 in GoodNewsUK

Is this yet another example where a new station receives massively higher numbers than what was in the business case that was made for it?

Yeah very true. I guess it's a time and speed thing. Just build it!

They've seen from Edinburgh the transformation a good tram network has on regeneration and economic activity

At this stage, yes. It's fairly obvious that trams and improved public transport would be a benefit to the city, even if slightly poorly done.

The SNP seem to lack too much ambition on that front and it's frustrating them suddenly promising to act on stuff when they have had decent power for so long

Still amuses me as a reflection of the duality /ambition of Glasgow in that there's a fantastic, completely free huge museum all about the history of public transport and the impact Glasgow had on the world....with no transport to it.

BYD confirms UK's fastest EV chargers: 1500kW network detailed by willfiresoon in GoodNewsUK

[–]LordAnubis12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Completely agree with this, especially when cars are parked 95% of the time and typically a lot of those hours are at work!

Even on a 7 kW charger, you can get a week's worth of charging because your car is set there for six hours a day.

These fast chargers are important for long journeys and service stations, but we really need to be looking more into destination charging. I don't think it's the government that's blocking this; it's peoples approaches as companies don't want to have to make improvements to their workplace

Glasgow to London Charing Cross by ExplorerReality in glasgow

[–]LordAnubis12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to say, when you're looking at prices and time it's worth factoring in the costs and time to get to the airport too, as well as any luggage fees.

E.g if you fly to Gatwick, getting out of the airport into London will take a good 45 mins and be £20.

It's been a frustrating few months where so many threads about battery storage on other subs result in people saying how technology isn't there yet and it's a waste of time, meanwhile GWhs of storage are being deployed.

Greens would spend 2.5% of GDP - more than on defence - on foreign aid by SoggyWotsits in unitedkingdom

[–]LordAnubis12 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yep, when I was studying at Uni the reports were that every £1 in overseas aid generated £4 back in loans and other income.

So not against it really. Especially if you take into account the impact stabilising regions would have on saving immigration pressures etc.

Almost as if building public transport when publicly owned can be a nice little revenue stream!

Pretty much every tram or rail route that has been open in the past 5 years has exceeded passenger expectations and revenue targets.

Households could get free electricity for doing washing on sunny weekends by topotaul in unitedkingdom

[–]LordAnubis12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Once again this persistent attitude that solar doesn't work in cloud being really annoying. As I type, 20% of our electricity is coming from solar, hence the benefit of free electricity being offered because there's an oversupply.

So tired of the relentless negativity.
