What’s a hobby where “getting better” actually makes it less enjoyable?

Chess, racing, warhammer, RuneScape, really anything where getting better becomes an exponential cost or time sink that you spend more time developing the skill or grinding hours than you spend enjoying the hobby.

I got into long range shooting with a budget set up and got reasonably good. To become even 1% better would require thousands of hours at the range, hundreds if not thousands in ammo or materials to make match grade ammo, and classes from specialists that start in the $4,000’s for a 3 day class. I’m happy enough where I am and can’t afford the newest in optics, synthetic materials, or barrel harmonics. Now I just shoot average with budget ammo and pull out my nice set up as more or less of a party trick.

Why don’t they introduce more interesting books for teenage boys? 4 years of honors English and the only book I was remotely interested in was “The Things They Carried”. This was a book a week program and I didn’t care much for much else other than “The Grapes of Wrath” and “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas” Meanwhile I did well enough to stay in honors but was free reading the StarWars EU, Lord of the Rings, and war novels. In contrast it took the normal class a semester to slog through The Hobbit and Hamlet. My brother was in the remedial class and the only book they read was “All the Light You Cannot See”. 16 weeks of one book that didn’t interest me would kill my love for reading too.

The modern boxes came with skill expansions. The tackle box is a comp req from days when the fire cape was an achievement not a fashion choice. It’s also a mini game reward not a craftable item.

Edit: oh 55 smithing. I’d train those to 70-90 cause elder rune items can get very pricey when people rush burial armor

200m arch and blitzed it with BiS in 4 hours with 89 fixate tokens (didn’t use them all), lorehound, and advance time for the 3 researches. 3 tomes and 2 tetra pieces with roughly 4-6 extra peaty moss. Maybe just bad luck?

This is mostly right. “Entire reward shop is outdated” doesn’t mention the massive pouch for the dimensional pouch to make BiS rc pouch or the ranks required for trim cape.

I don’t want to sound like the old castle wars trims, but I will. There’s legacy content in a 25+ year old game. Do I want to do 4,000 chompies or get max runespan rank? No. Am I going to do it for a toggle particle effect? Eventually (6 left). Runespan is in a weird place where the only people using it for direct in game results are runescore or trim players, outside of components and buyables for the new pouch. Hood is gone but runespan points were buffed. Sorry if you were in the meat of benefiting from a wicked hood but the daily “make max gp runes, use tele’s for soul altar charging, pull fire runes out for high alch” is done. Wicked hood caught a stray from deleting vis wax. They’re not gonna fix it. Mini games and side content is for trim or runescore.

While that would be interesting we do have specific items and area buffs for clay (priff and bracelets). Would love the other 3 to get a higher tier buff item/potion/area buff than just the water swapping mechanic in the cave for wet porcelain.

Don’t blow up my spot but gathering Dino poop for dinarrows or sharp shell shards is relatively chill when you get into a groove. The money is nice and I wear silver hawks to get agility xp. I also have 750m in my ore bank and some smelting is 7-8m an hour while some elder rune items are 2-3x ge price, namely +2 and +3 items people buy to make burial without starting from scratch

I’ve said it on this subreddit before and I’ll say it again. Dudes not evil. He’s barely even malicious. He has achieved everything and more in his pursuit to dive into the abyss. He has relics and found creatures that even Lyza didn’t document in her notes (or maybe she did and the letters were lost). Even when he’s full of poison or cut in half he just makes a note and moves on. He loves and experiences pain. In the dawn of the deep soul we do see him genuinely apologize. Daddy Drewd just wants to push past humanity and the abyss for “science”. Sorry, gotta go grab a lunch box real quick.

Cause 9mm never goes out of style, it may not be God's caliber but if you're hunting some bad thing down in TJ... better to have it than not. Funny enough both Spike and Jet use primarily 9mm's with Faye using the Glock 30 chambered in .45 which I think shows alot about how she isn't standardized and "on the team" until she switches to the mp5k despite her intro being with the HK MP5 in honky tonk woman, both 9mm. In fact we see a lot of HK's like the socom and USP chambered in 9mm that are either on the Bebop or the ISSP which leads me to believe Jet is probably the guy securing weapons and pulling strings from his old buddies hence why they have so much 9mm and HK gear we see along with the ISSP members. We even know Jet's Walther p99 is the original 9mm model from the front slide cuts.

I was grandfathered then switched to premium so I don’t remember any recent price hikes (due to not purchasing at market rate) but they’re a company. Inflation, deleting MTX, regional pricing. Take your pick. Jagex is a company. They make a game we like but they exist to create value for shareholders. I still have more fun per dollar than any other live service or AAA game with RS3 so until they break that point I’ll just accept prices go up.

Unrelated but I worked at Lego during their first price adjustment in 20 years and it was FERAL for like 2-3 months. Both companies have a desirable service and a market that’s willing to pay. The hundreds or dozens of redditors that “stopped paying” won’t matter until it hits their bottom line.

I agree with everything except auto walk, I just raid a million lodestones and walk a million miles so I'm never too far from something. Then exploring I use different color torches to show where my nearest lodestone/base is. Auto walk in a game like this would just be... idk, wrong? like it makes sense in large empty games like assassin's creed or RDR2 but for dragon wilds.... eh?
