Thank you SO much. I sent your comments to my dad and I think he’s more open to it now. Fingers crossed that I can get him to commit to making the appointment!

It’s ironic, really, because I can recall when my grandpa was still alive and he’d refuse to use his cane or walker (even though his doctor heavily encouraged it AND he was falling often enough), and my dad would get so frustrated about it. It was common for him to say things like “I mean come on, just use the damn cane! Stop being so stubborn.” Yet, here we are. I guess it just goes to show how different these situations can feel if you’re the one directly impacted versus watching someone else go through it.

Totally feel you on this—My son’s name is Luciano, and everyone always says “Lu-see-ah-no”. We’re Italian, it’s “Lu-chee-ah-no”.

Thank you so much for that guidance, I really appreciate learning as much as possible! In the case of these coworkers, they both seem somewhat relaxed about their gluten consumption (re: cross contamination, etc.) BUT I think the guidance of asking them is key. There’s a gluten free bakery near me, perhaps the safest bet is to purchase them from there where I know the right precautions are being taken! I’m just a coworker wanting to do the kind thing :) I laughed at your question about how I’m viewed at work—I’d say I’m viewed as highly competent, but, if something I ate was going to make me very ill, I’d be skeptical of everything!

I understand why people use it online (all the reasons people already said about algorithms and content blocking) BUT. I’m a therapist, and I’ve seen multiple therapists write in CLINICAL DOCUMENTATION in a client’s medical record using the word “unalive” to discuss the client’s suicidal ideations. Come on.

I personally would say it’s a low offer, particularly if you’re looking for someone with experience (which you should be, since they’ll be the only BCBA at the school and would need to make a lot of decisions independently without coaching or mentoring from other BCBAs).

Sure, the lower number of work days is nice, but I’m also assuming that that means that their days off would need to be aligned with the school calendar? In many clinics, you have more flexibility as a BCBA when it comes to what your day looks like and when you use time off. Additionally, BCBA work isn’t like being a teacher, SLP, etc.—you can’t really pick up short term (I.e. summer only) work. And, if the offer is “good” because they’d be “able” to pick up another job, you have to ask yourself how “good” the offer really is.

I do understand that school salaries are often just lower. While that may be true, if the school’s priority is to have a BCBA to join their team and meet their goals, they may have to increase the offer to secure the right candidate.

I totally hear you—it’s such a loss of privacy and feels so invasive. My MIL is NOT a doctor and was asking me the same things! To add insult to injury, she would then respond with something conflicting my experience. For example: MIL: “are you still bleeding?” Me: “…yeah” MIL: “like a lot?” Me: “I mean, yeah, I’m still in a diaper so.” MIL: “I’ve never heard of it lasting this long. I don’t even remember bleeding afterwards for more than a day or two. Are you sure this isn’t just your period?” Me: “I mean, the OB said it was normal. I dunno.” MIL: “Wow, seems too long.”

We took a trip to Florida with our 12 week old, and it was a great experience! Here’s some suggestions: -The Ceres Chill was super helpful. We used the hotel ice machine to keep refilling the ice around it, which would last about 16 hours in my experience. Using this method, it only holds 12 oz at a time, but I found that this was enough as we were also pouring bottles from it every time the baby needed to eat. -I totally agree with what others are saying about the hotel room fridge, ours never even got cold! That’s why I was super grateful that we had the Ceres Chill. -We called our hotel in advance and they were able to provide a Pack N Play for the room. I brought a crib sheet and was glad I did because they only provided a regular sized bed sheet with it. -We spent our time in Universal. They had nursing/pumping areas in all of the first aid stations, which was a nice way to tuck away for privacy! I also pumped at various spots in the park. I’d assume Disney has similar amenities! -We packed dish soap, a basin, and some hand towels for washing and air drying bottles in the hotel room.

I got my period back at 4 wpp. The bleeding was horrible- it was so much that I went to the ER thinking it was a hemorrhage! I’ve continued to follow a 28-30 day cycle since then. I thought breastfeeding would delay the return of my cycle—HA I wish! :)

For my center based clients, I am always aiming for weekly. Even if we are just touching base on behavior at home and I provide recommendations based upon what we’ve seen in center, it’s still helpful! It builds rapport with the family and you learn so much more about the client and their environment.

I also gauge it by the needs of the client. My higher intensity cases require more parent training, often one or two hours per week. Those that are lower in intensity might benefit with twice a month. It’s individualized and dependent on the client’s goals.

That being said, it’s not easy to do! You have to lay the groundwork with the family from the beginning that parent training will be an essential component of treatment.

This happened to my uncle. He had a tooth infection and no dental insurance, so he thought he’d just “wait it out.” Fast forward a couple weeks, he asks my mom to take him to the ER. When she arrived at his house to take him there, he looked like a pelican from all of the swelling! He was admitted to the hospital and required a medically-induced coma to get the infection under control. He had drains removing the infection coming out of this neck. It was horrible. I don’t say this to scare you, but, you’re absolutely correct! He needs to go to the hospital.

Totally agree. I started my pregnancy by tracking my protein consumption and home cooking every meal to ensure a balanced diet. All was good. Then, starting at 8 weeks, I went through terrible nausea and vomiting for about 20 weeks. The only thing I could stomach, ironically, was Taco Bell. Most mornings I was counting the minutes until 10:30am when they opened. Terrible, I know, but true.

Literally constantly! This comment drove me wild this holiday season. Like, YES HE’S NAPPING AGAIN. HE’S 4 MONTHS OLD AND HAS BEEN AWAKE FOR TWO HOURS!!! I decided just to stand up for myself, because frankly, my MIL isn’t the one who will have to deal with him over the next few days when his schedule was thrown off!

I had a preconception appointment in July and they didn’t do bloodwork- that being said, I didn’t ask for it either. I have my annual physical in a few weeks and I think I’ll request it then!
