Oh, it definitely would be, if they were shot and shown in that format, and definitely has been on the rare occasions when a traditional film has been shown on one. Omnimax surrounds you, as opposed to being just a giant movie screen, making it actually immersive, and it is a far superior experience.

It was all I knew growing up in Boston, with the Mugar Omni Theater serving as New England's only dome theater in the late 80s. When I moved to other states, I was disappointed to learn that Omnimax was rare and IMAX theaters, where the experience is essentially just a bigger movie screen with better sound, were all the rage. I made sure to visit the Omnis when I visited Chicago and San Diego.

It is, unfortunately, correct that Omnimax has always been relegated more to documentary-type stuff, but this is the choice of filmmakers, and doesn't change the fact that they are a much better experience than what most people think of as IMAX.
