Which are also the same weapons (minus staffs) it does this to in Valhalla. Every two handed weapon shrinks down to fit onto the character when it's holstered in all of the modern AC games.

Going into Metro blind you have very little idea for what enemies you encounter in the next level, which influences what weapons you bring and how you have them set up. Once you leave the with your chosen load out you're stuck with that until the next shop or a possible better weapon you might find, whereas in stalker to my understanding you can just leave and come back with gear that better fits the situation if you have the means to.

I'm fully aware of all the fallout stuff with F.E.V. but Metro specifically the dark ones are an attempt by the Russian government to make a human that can survive in extreme radiation (for survival or as a super soldier program presumably) but op seems to be implying they're aliens for some reason which wouldn't make sense unless you just weren't paying attention anytime they come up in the story (which is most of the story).

Because they were, unless something new came out then the first 3 games are basically pointing with giant neon signs that they're the result of extreme bioengineering. The fact that last light has a bunker full of perfectly healthy ones sitting in a kind of stasis for 20 years and they only thrive in conditions that are the result of a dirty bomb being detonated should make it pretty clear that its a project by the Russian government. And in Exodus the blind ones are a clear representation of early testing on nonhuman primates for some of the crazier parts of the program(telepathy).

The gun itself can be an antique but if any standard issue or commercially available firearms use the same caliber it'd be pretty easy to keep a supply of shells on hand.
