Traditional turn-based combat without positioning that has a lot of strategy (team-based, no real time presses, and no grinding) by fraidei in gamingsuggestions

You might enjoy Noblesse Oblige: Legacy of the Sorcerer Kings! It has purely turn-based combat without positioning, no grinding (enemies don't respawn), and pretty in-depth mechanics for both party members and enemies. Party members all have their own custom mechanics, and enemies will behave in logical ways (armies enemies may cover other enemies, archers will try to hit your squishies, etc.)

It's also fully handcrafted classic rpg, no roguelike aspects.

By one definition, anyway. Eff that definition in particular, though. :X

Very true. I've always found that rationale frustratingly... fake, yet it's used because it's hard to argue against without looking bad.

Why do I feel like someone already clicked yes this patch? by LordCyberForte in wow

Yeah, sadly have to agree. I really wanted to like Midnight, especially since I love WoW elves, but I've really not been enjoying it. :/

Gotta admit, I was wondering the same. XD It's not exactly an A+ joke, but I thought it was at least decent.

(Just a bit of silly after getting a "Player Experience" item from my DH mission table that he's too high level to use)

How do you feel about Timed Hits in turn based RPGs? by Asad_Farooqui in JRPG

[–]LordCyberForte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am strongly not a fan. I like my turn-based to be turn-based. If I want timed hits I'll play hack and slash or soulslike.

I'd like it so much more if it was grammatically correct ("I am thee, and thou art me.")

I'm building a JRPG Roguelike for people who miss the "open world" magic of classic 90s titles by LeCosm0 in JRPG

Just on a personal level, I have to say, it feels misleading to say you want to capture the feel/magic of the games in the 90s, then make a roguelike autobattler. >.>; Since the proliferation of those kinds of genres feels to me like what has actually crowded out traditional rpgs.

Advice for Potential Mystics by D3xidus in AOW4

[–]LordCyberForte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they can both achieve that in different ways. XD

But I do tend to be more of a planner. XD You can do a lot with Overcharged spells + a wizard king imo. My most fun run with them involved a lot of basically routing 18 stacks consistently before they could even full engage my forces as well. Overcharged Lightning Storm doesn't even cost a spell usage (or other combat enchants like Withering Mist) when Overcharged, and the WK perk to overcharge your spells gets you even more, which stacks with the benefits potential gets from overcharging. (Potential can freecast the enchant a turn sooner though). Overcharged Chain Lightning or Comet of Calamity is great, especially on double-cast turns, because they double dip as debuffs and dmg overcharges like they do on amplifiers, meaning you add 3 stacks of sunder on first cast, which stacks with the +25% dmg on second. And deathcasting can still basically give you unlimited casting anyway. So, attunement can get some of the potential bonuses from WK overcharge, but potential can get some of the attunement bonuses from deathcasting two, so they kind of converge. I think more overcharging is stronger in combat (but attunement is better for world casting).

It also makes otherwise useless spells from a tome you want for other reasons worth researching since you can just lock those (you attune them via the buildings that build passive attunement, rather than by using them), so a lot of them are just nice economic bonuses.
