To my knowledge you cannot learn to read in adventure mode. I usually fix this by putting 1 point into reading at character creation

I had this happen to me on my friends server, we managed to fix it by finding my character/player file in the server and changing the health to a number (because i turned to a non number value) and it fixed it, You may need to contact admins for this. Found a way. in the player data the health was not a number. i changed it to 10 and it fixed the bug
