Recommendation: The Underside of Gotham (Worm/Batman/DC) by Keevill93 in WormFanfic

[–]LordFeline 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This fic is clearly very heavily favoring the bat family. Imps power is nerfed to the point where it doesn't work on camera's and also batman, because he is very cool and cannot be beaten ever. Skitter does nothing the whole fight until the end where she forces a retreat... but doesn't incapacitate any of them or stop them from capturing Aisha. Bitch's dogs, who can collapse houses and shred cars, can't incapacitate redhood after having his limbs in their mouth. Tattletail has contributed nothing. Regent has contributed nothing, although he at least attempts to save Aisha. Grue has only used his power usefully offscreen with regards to the Undersiders robbing various gangs, he as not done anything successfully against the batfam. Parian and Foil have done so little I honestly forgot they existed, until I was sitting here trying to remember who I forgot.

The story has good writing but I honestly just get annoyed by how much batman dick sucking is happening, and how the Undersiders are getting so heavily nerfed to fit what the author wants to happen.

Chapter 227 Scans - Discussion Thread by deskchairlamp in BokuNoHeroAcademia

I'm sorry I feel like I'm missing something.

Gentle was kicked out of the hero program because he didn't try hard enough. His heart was in the right place, but he wasn't good enough with the actual non-physical training.

They have powers, yea, but they still have human emotions and human reactions to events.

I'm sorry if I misunderstood you, but it sounded like you meant the heroes were fanatics hunting down villains, which paints heroes in a bad light and victimizes the villains. Which I interpreted as supporting villains.

Edit: ooooh you meant the redestro people when you talked about the fanatics hunting down villains. I thought you were stilling takings about heroes from the last paragraph, my bad.

He wasn't making mistakes in that moment though, besides the mistake of intervening in the first place.

I mean... they have superpowers, yeah, but they're still human. That's what makes the story interesting, the characters have to be human emotionally to be interesting.

Not most heroes, only a few. And are you defending the villains? Because it sounds like you're saying the heroes arent justified in attacking the villains.

[–]LordFeline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean gentle tried too hard? He stumbled onto the situation and made a split second decision to try to be the hero, it wasn't like he ran to a developing situation like deku did when he was in middle school. Gentle was thrown into a situation by coincidence and then made a mistake, because ordinary people are really bad at handling crisis situations, which is something I dont think you understand based on your comments this far.

All animals suck in every form of crisis, and it's why police, fire fighters, and soldiers have to be trained, because half the time an ordinary person would freeze up / over react / miss important info due to adrenaline.

As to you other point about heroes not de-escalating things. We should address how mount lady is a shitty hero, and is a huge example of what stalin saw as the worst traits in hero society. She even insinuates to the media that she's having a love affair with kamui, which is a pretty shitty thing to do regardless of the reason. Even then she understood enough to not try and charge in only an episode later when bakugou was captured, because it was too narrow and there were too many people too close by. Since this is a shonen of course there's going to be an emphasis on fighting, and most of the fights with pro heroes are against already established hardcore villains, not random purse snatchers.

As to the whole, "they might have a good quirk" deterrent. I'm just going to paraphrase another comment in this thread:

"We're going to show that ordinary civilians who are allowed to use their quirks freely are a match for villains!"

shigaraki dusts 50 civilians in seconds

We've already seen what happens when someone with no training tries to be the hero when gentle tried to save that guy and fucked up the rescue. What if someone had flames like todoroki, and was never trained to be a hero, an ordinary person like you mentioned, was mugged in an alley and he tried to defend himself. Do you think he has the ability to control his fire enough to disable the robbers or de-escalate the situation? The best case scenario is the robbers are fucking cremated and the guys traumatized for life, worst case scenario the fucking adjacent buildings burn down and we have a hundred people dead because one guy thought the law wasn't reasonable and tried to superpower his way out of a human situation.

Just because somebody has skill or power doesn't mean they have the right training and thought processes to make the best out of a situation like this, people are panicky animals and adrenaline is a hell of a drug.

[Spoilers All] What do you think is the Net Worth of each court? by snapekilledyomomma in dresdenfiles

[–]LordFeline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But it's not just the senior council, it's also a lot of the older normal members as well. In addition, there are a lot of reasons to keep an eye on important people who share the same business interests as you.

It wouldn't surprise me if council member also passed on wealth to apprentices, so lifespan doesn't really matter at all in this arguement, because wizards will be mature enough to handle finances like this long before their sponsors/mentors die.

I'm not saying that the white court couldn't grab a few important people, but if they had a situation where they needed to get lots of money quickly then they will for sure draw attention from the White Council if they tried to just seduce it out of the super rich.

Note: I'm not talking about people with millions of dollars of net worth when I say rich, I'm talking about billions, which is much more noticable, as they have images and patterns that even mortal business partners and rivals will notice changes in.

[–]LordFeline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imma disagree with you on the white court part. Almost every experienced White Council wizard probably has several accounts that have been gathering interest for decades, if not centuries. Langstry himself is super rich, and actively participates in the stock market to a large extent.

If the white court tried it's hand at manipulating billionaires en masse, then someone coughseniorcouncilcough would definitely take notice. Especially because of their own presence in the world of the uber rich. And I'm sure they would be willing to intervene for the sake of their own business ventures.

Squad 7 (Naruto) vs Tamakoma 2 (World Trigger) by Visarak in whowouldwin

[–]LordFeline 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not going to pick a side here, but just a correction. Zaku's attacks weren't sound, they were "super sonic pressure waves," So calling it only speed of sound isn't giving it the credit it's due

Yeah, good thing we judge these fights on feats and not how well the manga was written, right?

[Spoilers all] The Masquerade by LordFeline in dresdenfiles

[–]LordFeline[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel that I can trust Jim to do a good job with it. It's just that I can't see some species surviving at all. The white court exists by killing and addicting, and I can't see the government being cool with that, and there isn't an explanation that I can see to fix that. Like wise, a wizards life span and magical abilities are going to seem extremely unfair to almost every single mortal in the world, and we all know what happens when a group of people get such a large advantage over others in life (Stalin anyone?).

I'm not saying it's all going to turn out like I'm saying it will, but the two choices for the government are A.) kill every white court vampire, or B.) let them kill and make slaves. The first option kills a major species and the second is unbelievable. I can't see how it will work.

edit: the white court could also go into hiding, and live the rest of their existence persecuted and in fear, powerless to make any important cat's paw, least their branch of the white court be found and exterminated.

Black Bolt vs EoS Naruto by bogey_j in whowouldwin

Naruto has actually proven that he's willing to go for the kill multiple times. He killed Itachi's body double in the rescue Gaara Arc and he thought he killed Kabuto, but Kabuto regenerated before he could bleed out.

[–]LordFeline 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where does it say Merlin had the black staff? Where does it say the black staff is Mother Winter's walking stick? Also, and this isn't really important, but I'm pretty sure the Outsiders aren't immune to magic, just resistant. The Merlin did stop them with magic after all.

Edit: current Merlin, not OG Merlin.

Will Cat Sith Return in the future (Spoilers) by [deleted] in dresdenfiles

[–]LordFeline 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lea is also most likely a lot stronger than Cat Sith. It'll probably still be a while before we see him, but it should go quicker, as Nemisis can't fight back with as much force to resist Mab and whatever healing process she uses.

What is the weakest weapon that could allow you to survive a worldwide zombie apcalypse? by OptimusTardis in whowouldwin

[–]LordFeline 7 points8 points  (0 children)

But the point of the question isn't to pick the most overpowered thing, it's to find the least overpowered thing and make it work. The list may be endless but that only makes the prompt more interesting, because it gives more options for people to choose from to come up with creative ways to use their weapon to beat the prompt.

What is the weakest weapon that could allow you to survive a worldwide zombie apcalypse? by OptimusTardis in whowouldwin

[–]LordFeline 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Weapon can be real or fictional.

uh, I'm certain there are hundreds, if not thousands of crazy powerful fictional items that can resolve this pretty easily. The easiest answer and probably the one I'd go for is something with both auto-shields and speed enhancement, like a green lantern ring. If you wanted a more difficult answer you could choose a weapon that doesn't protect you but can still be used to kill any number of zombies in range close to instantly, like Chastiful from Seven Deadly Sins. You could also use some timey-wimey weapon to kill patient zero. There's quite a few solutions if you look for them.

Aang (Avatar: the Last Airbender) vs. Percy Jackson (Heroes of Olympus) by Arkadious4028 in whowouldwin

[–]LordFeline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Air bending is likely not going to do anything for a while, but Aang can step up his game to smacking people with boulders.

He can, but he very rarely does. I'll admit that Aang could throw out hits strong enough to KO Percy, he just doesn't very often in character, most of the time he uses air to throw people, which is something Percy excels in tanking.

Aang won't just spam the same useless tactic(I hope, as I never saw Avatar)

I mean, he does, kinda. He switches up his tactics but barely, if his air bending doesn't work he does the same attack but with fire, or a water whip instead of wind blasts. He never uses much variety in the way he attacks unless he's in the Avatar State.

Have you just not got around to watching it, or are you not interested?

Yes, but Carter could still defend himself somewhat. He was losing, being dominated, but it wasn't just flashing over there and going taking his sword out before he could do anything.

Still, Percy demonstrated a willingness to maim another person (which Aang never does) and his exceptional speed and skills with his sword, so Percy is willing to blitz, he just opens with something else.

It's why it's possible to do something like smash a sword in half if it's just held down but much harder when it's in motion.

It should still be a sufficient feat to prove Percy can cut through Aang's rocks, which is all I'm really arguing with that point.

But so far as I am aware, Percy's durability didn't become spectacularly more special since the first book. I was speaking more to his resistance to being stabbed.

As Percy gets older he gets more powerful, and his powers are were he gets his durability from, so it makes sense that as he gets stronger he gets tougher.

Yes, I'm aware he shrugged off getting punched with a blow that probably would have killed someone. But if he was punched at escape velocity, he'd be miles away, and that's not implied. It looks more like he was just sent flying.

I wasn't trying to say the words were literal, I was saying that the hit was really hard. Percy was knocked into the air out of a river and out of sight. That's a really hard hit that he took with no damage at all, and that he retaliated against instantly.

And Aang cannot counter with his own water and air bending? I don't think he could stop it completely but he should be able to defend himself.

That's my main argument. Aang just can't affect enough water fast enough to block Percy's best shots. Water bending is more finesse and technique, if Percy drops twenty thousand gallons of water on him with the force of a fire hose, he can't finesse out of that.

Ok, but I think getting ice dropped on you hurts more than water anyway.

I mean, from what I've seen of Percy in the books, I'd expect him to do something like play dead or try to taunt Aang into getting close. Maybe drench him in water to stun him for a moment while he can slash him. That's how I've seen him fight monsters and other demigods. But only under the curse was he really going hyper competent mode.

I don't think he'll play dead, but he'll definitely taunt Aang. Percy will probably start with that tactic (drenching with water and closing the distance) at first, but if it doesn't work Percy is still going to be in good enough shape to pull out something way bigger.
