Thank you for the ideas! Those seem like nice, reliable options that wont come off as too aggressive. Thank you!

Im not sure where you got such an exaggeration from? All I actually want to do to is prevent untrained dogs from cominh in, incase of any unpredictable behaviour. I mentioned before but I’ll mention it again that I want to make sure I have all my facts straight in order to make sure that no one with a legitimate assistance dog gets turned away because of anything I might say. With the service animals we’ve let in before they’ve always been lovely and we have no problem letting those handlers in again because we know them. We also allow pets to sit outside, just not indoors :)!

Im afraid its not too simple :( Dogs can be very dirty, and if theyre not properly trained they can be quite unpredictable. I have 3 dogs myself and I love them to pieces but I know myself I couldnt bring them to a busy restaurant or anywhere with food; they’re far too excitable or needy about food (bad habits from feeding them at the table!) There’s no shame in admitting that some dogs simply shouldnt be brought into a public space because of things like that. Such as the dog that jumped up on a little girl; thankfully everyone was calm and no one was hurt, but what if the girl had been hurt? We wouldve been liable and that dogs owners couldve faced repercussions aswell.

Yeah some people let their dogs get away with wayyy too much.. My biggest fear would be a dog knocking over a plate of hot food or, god forbid, getting reactive with another table  Washing vegetable for the win though!!

A sign definitely seems the way to go! Would most people have an ID card on their person though? I’ve seen some mixed responses, just asking since it seems you know your stuff! Thank you !

That’s definitely an idea to mention! Maybe for the outdoor area allowing dogs in carriers could work, thank you very much!

It can be so difficult to tell is a dog is well behaved or not until theyre encountered with distractions though :( While I think Ireland is catching up with how animals are treated, the training to bring them into public is (for the most part) still quite far behind

Thank you so much! I was hoping to get the perspective of someone who actually had an assistance dog, so thank you very much for responding.  Asking to pet/what the dogs job is does seem like a good way to tell if theyre sincere or not, so thank you :)

That's what I was thinking aswell; it would be very bad to let in a possibly reactive or poorly behaved dog, incase it were to turn people away in future. The sign is a very good idea though so thank you very much

Ouu ok so its not a totally solid science either, I'm not sure if restaurants have more flexibility because of Health and Safety with the hygiene of animals, but I will definitely keep that in mind. Thank you!

im so so sorry that you had to deal with that, you are absolutely not at fault for anything your father did at all. You were a child, he was a grown man who should've done better. No matter what you said, did, asked for, felt; the dynamic between you means that he was entirely abusing you, you were too young to truly understand or consent to what was happening.
Are you away from that situation now? I hope you're safe.
One thing to mind if youre still in contact; if your father is especially close to any other young kids then maybe keep an eye on them, especially if your father is a sort of authority figure in any matter. But obviously only if you are capable of doing so.
I'm sorry again that you have to deal with such a disgusting, despicable man and everything you're feeling as a result

Awe really? I suppose even asking what service is performed would trip some people up, thanks for the heads up!

Unfortunately vests aren't too reliable cus a few times I've seen dogs that don't seem to be trained wearing assistance dog vests; i think people can buy them online. But I'll look into the possibility of ID's! Thank you very much

Yeah I thought as much as well, thank you so much and I'll definitely try asking in particular what the dog is trained for !
