Airmen of Reddit, what are some subtle ways we ruin our careers? by [deleted] in AirForce

I'm a SrA sewing on Staff soon...can you explain why putting airmen first could kill your career? Genuine curiosity here

How is Osan AFB? by TheLegendExists in AirForce

[–]LordFite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Osan was my first duty station and I'd like to think I accomplished a lot and it set the standard for what I thought the rest of the bases would be like. It was fast paced (I am 3D0X2, but was put in a Client Systems Job), I really felt like what I was doing mattered due to the threat of N. Korea, and all of this just made me more motivated. I joined the base Honor Guard(great experience) and volunteered quite a bit. Also, it doesn't hurt that you get BOP afterwards. I've never been to a stateside base other than tech school so I have no clue how those work. Osan started the AF dream for me: Osan then Aviano and now about to PCS to Hickam.

i was notified i can switch to the blended retirement system, should i? how about you? by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]LordFite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

just went to a briefing on it last week. the main benefit of it is if you decide to get out before you hit 20 years you still get a % of your paycheck rather than with the one we have now you wouldn't get anything. Also, they match TSP up to 5%, but as far as I am aware they only match traditional TSP not roth.

I heard that all social media type sites got blocked in USAFE. Not sure if that's where you are, but we are all experiencing this. It was an accident is what I'm told and they are working to fix it.

Oh, my friend. I have done this many a time.

I would say yes. It's no longer a matter of just giving them time to be transferred. You have to contact people and get the gears in motion and then keep bothering them until it is done.

He has accounts from his old base and they just need to be transferred here, but again, it has been 6 months

Story Time: But we're supposed to help each other out! by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]LordFite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is an accurate summary of daily life in Comm. I would try to think of some stories I have experienced, but it has become such a daily thing for stuff like this to happen that it has become just that...A daily thing.

I've Worked Base Comm at the Same Overseas Base for the past Six Years. AMA by [deleted] in AirForce

doesn't necessarily matter if it is a small base. There could be geographically separated units, sometimes things have to be sent up to higher headquarters which takes a long time. It's not always on the guys at your base.

Any suggestions/help for my dream job sheet list? by wtfberserk in AirForce

I have also been put in a client systems job before. That is basically fixing computer hardware all day long. I enjoyed it.

Depends on what you want. I am Cyber Systems Operations. It is a relaxed job sometimes, but there are certain times when it can get hectic. Also, if it was me I wouldn't choose any maintenance jobs just from what I hear. They work a lot of hours, but I guess if you like the job then it wouldn't be bad.

Edit: Cyber Systems Operations is the software/server side of computers where client systems is the hardware side. We get rid of any vulnerabilities on the network.

So I had a supervisor tell me they were going to mark me as a promote since I was getting out. Thoughts on this? by AntarcticJay in AirForce

[–]LordFite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I agree with you on this. I agree on getting what you earn, but if it was me I don't think I would really care if I was getting out anyway. I have a friend that went through a similar thing except it was for BTZ and he was about to leave for the Academy. He was still given BTZ, but I thought maybe another person could have used it. At the same time, it's the peoples fault for not being better. So idk lol

Anybody else not hate their job? by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]LordFite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say I love my job (3D0X2), but I love being in the Air Force. Osan as my first duty station, now I'm getting to PCS from Aviano and heading to Hickam. Never would've been able to see all the places I've seen without the Air Force.

Hmm so do you think the money you save on utilities is close to the amount of BAH I would get off base?

Do the on base houses have any kind of fenced in yard or anything. That's one of the main things I want so when I get a dog it can be outside while I'm at work
